October 13, 2023 at 6:18 am #235651AL: Astros (favored) are at home vs. Rangers in Games 1-2
NL: Phillies (favored) are at home vs. D-backs in Games 1-2
October 13, 2023 at 6:51 am #235653I’m sick of the Astros lol
7 straight appearances in the ALCS.
This kind of sustained success isn’t just attributable to when they ‘tanked’ – it’s been going on too long for just that.
I still think they should have been stripped of their ’17 title.
Dodgers and Braves both still have pretty recent titles – along with Astros.
For me it’s ‘Anybody but Houston’.
October 13, 2023 at 7:06 am #235658Good chance for a rerun of the ’22 Astros/Phillies WS. I haven’t looked, but I’d have to say Houston has to be the odds frontrunner of the four teams left standing. But, “youneverknow,” AZ could win it all without Randall and Curtis.

October 13, 2023 at 2:54 pm #235673I never make predictions. Especially about the future, but a baseball gypsy told me the Astros would become the first team to repeat as WS champions since the 2000 Yankees. That particuar gypsy is normally spot on…
October 15, 2023 at 10:20 am #235733Cool stat, but of course none of the current players were around 150 head-to-head games ago. That is especially the case since they play in different divisions.
Personally, I don’t see it this equal now, but maybe the Phils will have a letdown after the big win over the Braves.

October 15, 2023 at 12:40 pm #235738That is a really good one…If ever there were a dead heat on a merry go round, that’s it!
October 15, 2023 at 6:17 pm #235745I’m looking forward to the Dusty/Bochy match-up that these two teams will feature in the ALCS. A lot of people, including myself, would give the edge to Bruce Bochy and the Rangers insofar as the two occupants of the top step. But I’m not so naive as to kid myself…Old Dusty’s been around this game for a minute or two shy of the cavemen days and has seen and participated in more than handful of Big League baseball games both as a player and manager. Dusty knows the dance moves to most all of the situations that arise on a Big League baseball field. I’m also reasonably certain Dusty possesses a little bit of that intangible concept called instinct. I’m not selling old Dusty short. Besides that, he’s funny to watch…Haha!
October 15, 2023 at 6:27 pm #235746Yeah, Dusty is funny to watch. With his stupid toothpicks and sweat bands on his forearms.
I wonder if the word professionalism ever entered into his vocabulary?
Din-din today was a ribeye steak in the air fryer, a couple ears of corn, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. Then a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar as me and Whitey Herdog watched the Colts get pounded by Jacksonville.

October 15, 2023 at 8:48 pm #235750Along with ancient philosophy and advanced mathematics, I’m reasonably certain that an extensive vocabulary isn’t one of old Dusty’s longsuits, but even at age 74, I’m guessing that Dusty can still remember the hand signs required to relay a hit and run or a sac-bunt from the top step onto the field of play. Well, maybe not…Haha!
October 15, 2023 at 8:50 pm #235751Montgomery through five without allowing a run. Pretty nice post-season turn so far from the lefty.
October 15, 2023 at 9:03 pm #235752Looks like he’s building steam and getting stronger. Make that through six full…
October 15, 2023 at 10:22 pm #235753First round goes to the Rangers with Montgomery the winning pitcher of decision…6.1IP’ed 0ER’s 5H’s 6K’s 1BB. Nice post-season turn by the former Redbird lefty.
October 15, 2023 at 10:29 pm #235754Gumby was dealing.
October 15, 2023 at 11:00 pm #235755Not only was he dealing, he also outpitched a 3 time CYA winner and future HOF’er.
October 16, 2023 at 1:45 am #235756Monty’s stock is rising.
October 16, 2023 at 8:23 am #235766
stlcard25ParticipantRemember that the Yankees traded Monty because he was thought to be not good enough for a playoff rotation? Yeah, that’s looking a bit silly right now. Good on Jordan, hope he keeps tearing it up.
October 16, 2023 at 8:51 am #235768It is going to be fun seeing how Scott Boras plays Monty’s hand this winter.
October 16, 2023 at 4:00 pm #235792Rangers out to a 4-0 first inning lead. They look like they want a ticket to the WS.
October 16, 2023 at 4:23 pm #235793Alverez utterly destroys a belt high Eovaldi fastball for a solo tater to put the Astros on the board. If Alverez keeps ripping it like that, the Rangers are going to have to work around him.
October 16, 2023 at 4:26 pm #235794I don’t guess it really makes any difference anymore, but I’m looking forward to some NL action in tonight’s PHI/AZ game.
October 16, 2023 at 4:27 pm #235795Rangers restore the 4 run lead with a solo tater from Helm.
October 16, 2023 at 5:37 pm #235796I don’t guess anyone’s watching this game. Must be wrestling season…
October 16, 2023 at 5:40 pm #235797Astros cut the lead to 2 runs and bring the tying run to the plate but Eovaldi escapes while still holding a 5-3 lead heading to the 7th.
