I’m not expecting much from Pujols in the field or offensively. He is here to put fannies in the seats.
Any sort of production will be a plus.

Decades of data on lineup construction would say otherwise. I expect that you will be disappointed if you keep expecting a non-optimized lineup to be run out there. I’m fairly sure that’s one of the reasons that Marmol is manager.
Tuesday’s game closes the spring schedule. Note it begins two hours early. Expect it to be played quickly. Like today, no TV.

In broad terms, we can’t 100% know who will peform on any given day. But it’s absolutely not true that a lineup can’t be optimized when guys are generally gonna play in the same spots every day. Over the course of a year, it can be pretty vital to be sure the right guys are in the right spots. I believe that Marmol will be in lock step with the FO on this front, which will benefit the team for sure.

I almost want to move either Edman or Bader up to the two hole and shift everyone behind him down a spot – reverse Goldshmidt and O’Neill if Tyler has to hit 3rd….
Woodford is unexpectedly pitching in relief in the eighth inning today which suggests that he may not be the #5 starter. Maybe.
Today’s lineup is perfect and I hope becomes the regular lineup, with Dickerson being the DH and in the 5 spot against RHP. I could see Gorman eventually being the 6/7 guy once he’s called up.
When I say a lineup can’t be optimized, I’m more referring to analytical way of looking at it. There is common sense stuff that every manager has looked at since the dawn of the game. When I hear optimized, all I think of is how they teach how to hit now,so no I’m not a fan of that type of optimal. Everyone clamors for bader to hit leadoff cause at times it seems optimal. My problem is that bader hasn’t performed well when he’s done that. It’s like the bottom of the 9th thing far as pitchers. There’s more to the game than stats and numbers. The whole world has gone off the deep end and baseball and so called fans are going right over the edge with it
