Donovan’s hands rivaled those of Roberto Duran on that “hit”

EuroDandy…It’s almost as if there’s no such thing as an E anymore. The pitchers have to be a little annoyed that all these “hits” are charged to them.

This old fashioned pitching duel very well could end 2-1, Carter. Glad to be back onboard tonight after an absolutely grueling day down at the salt mines.

Nooty throttles a long bomb to right …..3-1 Birds……tale of the tape reveals it to be 452 feet in length. I guess Carter was right…..it didn’t end 2-1…….nice call, Carter.

A misplay on a routine attempt is how the error rule reads, so I guess you start by deciding on “routine”, or not.

Haha Wooster. I bet it is hard to catch with the outside of the glove. Reminds me showing up at some random neighborhood game in my youth without a glove because you weren’t thinking about playing. So you’d just borrow somebody’s glove on the other team. Being a lefty, I can’t remember how many times I had to force a wrong-handed glove on. Anybody else do that a few times?

jjcfstl…Well, none of them are “routine” for most mortals, but I think a lot of balls put into play that are scored as hits should be handled for the put-out at this level. And it may just be me, but it seems like the scorers are much more reluctant to charge an E than they once were.

1td I agree Donovan’s play was a very liberal interpretation by the scorer. Yelich and Donovan were happy about it, but Adam probably not so much.

I think it was greater than routine play. And this is why I’ve stated I don’t like a lot of defense metrics. Some grade that as much harder than others do. Fan graphs says a “routine” play is one 90-100% of players at that position make. “Likely” is 60-90%, “even” 40-60%, “unlikely” 10-40%, “remote” 1-10%, and “impossible” less than 1%. I don’t know how they come up with these numbers, but I would put it on the “even” category and say Donovan should have made it, Edman would have made it.

EuroDandy…Yep, I wonder if they score that a hit with a no-no in the 7th? Or even the 6th…

Neither, Carter. I sit in my office reading magazines and sipping sometimes enhanced coffee all day and when and if the mood hits me, I’ll go out and bark a few orders and on a good day slap a few backs.

Sounds really funky Euro. I remember getting my first glove wet as it was too small to begin with. When it dried it was hard as a rock and I couldn’t get my fingers in. Years later always got my kids good stuff.
