Where there’s lots of money to be had in competition, sports and otherwise, you know there’s cheating. And lots of it. It’s naive to think otherwise. Knowing exactly who is cheating and how they’re doing it is elusive. This is a bad deal for the innocent parties, whoever they are.
I think Albert is high on life and living his dream. Like the song says, he’s not as good as he once was, but he’s as good once as he ever was. And that is true every time he steps on to the field.
13-6 vs the Cubs in 2022…the best win percentage vs them since 2000 (they went 10-3), and the most overall wins against them since 1985. Gscottar should be pleased.

EuroDandy…Tatis Jr. demonstrated that it certainly hasn’t entirely disappeared and it won’t until the penalty consists of the genuine possibility of forfeiting what you termed as “lots of money.” Tatis Jr. was suspended for 80 games in which he will forfeit his salary for those 80 games. That’s an extremely small sliver of a 14 year $340M contract. Chicken feed. I’m reasonably certain that if the risk would have included a significant portion of the food on his table, he would have deliberated a bit more carefully prior to squeezing the proverbial trigger.
Good point, 1td. A big reason for the cheating is the magnitude of the $. A penalty is not an effective deterrent unless it’s of a similar magnitude as the “gains” of cheating.

Plus all athletes in sports get pains and strains and the ones on ‘roids heal faster. That alone is unfair to honest competitors
So I figure that Pujols has to be really cheap. He must be taking the kind of undetectable steroids that ONLY work against left-handed pitchers – because his OPS against righties is .627.

After taking an o-fer against the Nats RHPs yesterday, Pujols’ season OPS against RHP is down to .609. Marmol needs to stop playing him against RHPs.

You’re probably right but then let’s not forget why pujols is a Cardinal again…. the fans want to see him play. Some spend a lot of dough and travel a great distance maybe once/twice a season. Missing a chance to see ap would be a royal bummer for them. FO knows it, Marmol knows it and we know it. Just saying.
Right. So the answer is simple. When a righty starts, wait until a lefty reliever comes into the game and pinch-hit Albert then.
This isn’t a nostalgia show. They should be trying to do everything they can to win every game they can and starting Albert against RHP is a bad play (.609 OPS vs. 1.191).
The Dodgers figured it out last year and used it to their advantage. I can see Marmol getting excited when Albert crushes lefties and then starts him against righties. A result like Monday ensues more often than not. Pujols still has more PAs against RHP than LHP this season. Not wise, IMO.
I have no doubt that if the Cards clinch the Central and catching the Mets/Braves is out of reach, then Albert will play every day. Barring that, he’ll start vs lefties and pinch hit, primarily against LHP as well. This is undoubtedly the best for the team, and should lead to a Central crown and playoff run.
