Bikemike…The kid in me didn’t care if he went 0 for the season. I was simply happy to once again see him step into the box in a Cardinal uniform. He was, and continues to be, something else.
September 4, 2022 at 5:36 pm #199150Arizona has a 3-0 lead on Milwaukee in the 8th inning out west in the desert. The DBacks squandered a 6-4 lead in the 8th last night so lets hope they can hold on today. Would be nice to be 8.5 games ahead.
September 4, 2022 at 5:48 pm #199153Missed Albert’s heroics over what? Roast duck. And I’ll say this softly so the wifey doesn’t hear ….but it really wasn’t all that good.
September 4, 2022 at 5:49 pm #199154Arizona with a 5-0 lead over Milwaukee in the top of the 9th.
Can you say 8.5 games???
UPDATE: 5-1 Arizona the final. Redbirds up 8.5 games!!!
September 4, 2022 at 5:58 pm #199156Mets also losers today and now hold a within reach 5.5 game lead over the Redbirds for W/L records among division leaders.

stlcard25Participant13-6 vs the Cubs in 2022…the best win percentage vs them since 2000 (they went 10-3), and the most overall wins against them since 1985. Gscottar should be pleased.
September 4, 2022 at 6:27 pm #199158Albert is now third on the list of all-time HR hitters with 695. Some people think he is 5th but I don’t count the two cheaters Bonds & A-Rod.
September 4, 2022 at 6:38 pm #1991591TD – I said at that time after that article criticized the Cardinal for signing Albert, that I was happy we got him back. It seemed like the way my dad probably felt when the Cardinals brought Red Schoendienst back and he teamed with Musial for those two’s last big league seasons.
I love the way Yadi is the first to greet Albert with a big bear hug. Man, that stuff is priceless, and living legend moments.

And you know Albert didn’t cheat, how? Because he is a Cardinal?
September 4, 2022 at 7:02 pm #199161LeGrand…The other two guys got caught. Albert’s rap sheet is a clean one.
September 4, 2022 at 7:04 pm #199162Gamecard…You won’t have to worry about Rodriguez for too much longer, but I get what you’re driving at.

Dom, I’m a realist. People lie, cheat and steal in every walk of life. One of the biggest offenders is big pharma and the agencies that support it. Restrictions for illegal distribution of PED’s exist…not so masking agents. See where I’m going with that?I firmly believe that ‘roids are raging in pro and amateur sports because the science of masking has raced ahead of detection. There’s simply more profit in it.
Albert is no saint and the banning of HGH around 2010 coincides with his drop in production. It’s suspicious as hell. And now after a decade of fail he’s suddenly raking again…see where I’m going with that?
September 5, 2022 at 7:43 am #199187Mets also losers today and now hold a within reach 5.5 game lead over the Redbirds for W/L records among division leaders.
The race for #2 seed, and its advantages, is heating up. We do need to be mindful that we must overtake not only The Muts, now 5.5 games ahead, but also the Braves, now 1 game behind the Muts in the NL East, 4.5 ahead of us. We must close the gap on both of them, since if the Muts falter but the Braves do not, it will be them that slides into the #2 seed and not us.
It is obvious that our strategy with 28 games remaining must be to run the table.

They are chasing the Mets and the Braves for that #2 seed. The Mets have the second easiest schedule remaining, behind the Cardinals, while the Braves is a little tougher. I still think the Braves catch them and win the NL East. Cardianls would still be the #3 by winning the division.
The winner of the AL Central is going to the the #3 seed and host the last wild card. While it looks like BAL is going to miss the playoffs while still having a actual 3 game lead over the AL central.
But September 20-28 is going to tell me how much I dream. They go on the road to play SD, LAD, and MIL. Will be a really good gauge right before the playoffs. Not beating up on CHC, WASH and PIT, even if CHC had a .500 Aug, it’s still the Cubs.
September 5, 2022 at 8:25 am #199195LeGrand…I understand. However, practically every system of rules are founded on the premise that requires something tangible and readily evident to constitute any sort of an infraction of the rules set in place. I’m reasonably certain that a suspicion or heresay doesn’t fall under those categories.
September 5, 2022 at 8:56 am #199198There’s no question that placing #2 in the NL division leaders is a dark horse proposition, but just so long as the possibilty exists, it’s certainly a goal that’s not only very desireable, but also serves as genuine motivation to keep the fellas hungry and avoid the onset of complacency to settle in.
September 5, 2022 at 8:57 am #199199Albert has always been thick and strong as an ox. Bonds body completely changed so the ‘roids were obvious in him.
A-Rod was less obvious but the signs were there.
They tested the heck out of everyone and Puhols checked out clean every time.
McGuire was using Andro but I don’t think it was banned when he used it? Not 100% on that…

ParticipantAnd you know Albert didn’t cheat, how? Because he is a Cardinal?
And McGwire???
Maris’ 60 is still the the HR record standard as far as I’m concerned.
September 5, 2022 at 10:48 am #199223Check that – Maris 61. And I totally agree.
As far as Pujols is concerned – I cannot believe he would be stupid enough to be taking some PHDs at this point.
September 5, 2022 at 10:54 am #199227As far as MLB’s testing, it recently caught Tatis, one of the biggest stars in the game. Albert doesn’t have an exemption from regular testing.
Unfounded speculation makes me sad. It is too bad that some are presumed guilty until proven innocent. And even then, some still wouldn’t believe it.
September 5, 2022 at 10:57 am #19922814NyquisT
ParticipantThanks Rats… how could the biggest Maris fan this side of the Mississippi make that miscue? 61 in 61!!!
September 5, 2022 at 11:27 am #19923514NquisT…It’s rare, but some still contend that 60 HR’s remain the single season tater record. I still have my ’73 hardbound copy of The Baseball Encyclopedia, which not only has Aaron one shy of Ruth at 713 HR’s, but also has an asterisk next to Maris’ 1961 season totals. Haha! Back when cave men still existed, you had to thumb through the pages of a thing known as a book to check up on your favorite players…HA!
September 5, 2022 at 11:33 am #199237Let’s not for get that Roger was short of the Babe after 154 games. And above all don’t forget that crazy short RF “porch” in Yankee stadium favoring George Herman and all lefty power hitters.
He never hit 50 HR’s in the polo Grounds before they moved to the Bronx. How many would Greenburg, Wilson and Griffey hit with a 290ft, four foot high LF fence? So many variables in baseball
September 5, 2022 at 11:48 am #199238On the surface it appears the game is cleaned up a lot. Guys have not turned into over night power hitters ala Brady Anderson or Bret Boone. Also guys have not gone from looking like Tommy Edman to being the Michelin man.
Now maybe those side effects have been cancelled out of the current mother’s little helpers, but still we don’t have a sudden slew of 60-70 home run seasons.
Albert does not fit the pattern of a roider as his decline was riddled with injuries. McGwire said the big things roids did for him was keep him on the field, and the strength was secondary. And has been noted, Albert has always been the thick, stocky type. Could be that there is a lot going on under the table, but the tell tale signs – 60 homer seasons, beefed up dudes, and that sort of thing are not there.
On the other hand, every pitcher today throws mid 90s. Maybe roided up pitchers are canceling out roided up hitters. Still does not seem to be the case in my opinion, but a possible counter point.
