I get the feeling from watching the way that he works, that Montgomery will remain pretty healthy, Card4Ever. Mulder sure tweets a lot these days……I generally haven’t been reading them though.
September 2, 2022 at 8:51 pm #198764Pugs…Oh. okay. That makes sense. I miss those old WGN and WTBS national broacasts. They were kind of the groundbreakers of everyday televised games back in the day and were sometimes the only way I could see the Cardinals on TV if they were playing the Cubs or Braves.
September 2, 2022 at 8:52 pm #198765Didn’t Ted Abernathy have a mean eephus pitch too, Euro?
September 2, 2022 at 8:54 pm #198766They sure were, TD. Steve and Harry were a perfect team in the booth. So very different talents, but oh so amusing.
September 2, 2022 at 8:56 pm #198767Bill Lee wishes he hadn’t offered up an ephus to Tony Perez.
September 2, 2022 at 8:58 pm #198768Pugs…Yep, WTBS had a good broadcasting crew as well with Skip and Pete.
September 2, 2022 at 9:00 pm #198769Euro, I worked hard trying to throw the knuckler but it would only fly for about 30 feet. It wasn’t ’till I was about 30 before I found out you grip it with finger tips, not knuckles
September 2, 2022 at 9:01 pm #198770Skip & Pete were good, but simply not in the same league as Harry & Steve, TD. Jack & Harry, Harry & Steve and Vin & anybody, were the 3 best broadcasting teams in the history of this great game.
September 2, 2022 at 9:04 pm #198771About an hour ago I would have bet a dollar that Sampson wouldn’t have seen the 3rd inning.
September 2, 2022 at 9:06 pm #198773Sampson now at 98 pitches with 2 out here in the 5th. I have to admit that back in the 1st inning, I never would have dreamed that Sampson would have survived 5 innings. He’s been quite good these last 4 frames. Still 2-0 Birds.
September 2, 2022 at 9:07 pm #198774Harry Caray was always my favorite Redbird broadcaster. Probably because I cut my teeth listening to him. Jack Buck was the middle innings guy back then.

Oh no! Skip would have been better if he took that clothes pin off his nose!
September 2, 2022 at 9:07 pm #198776Pugs, not sure about Abernathy. I know he was a submariner. If he had an eephus, he had you from both directions.
September 2, 2022 at 9:08 pm #198777Ha ha! Along with Steve & Euro, you and I are two peas in the same pod too, TD. It’s not a bad pod if I do say so myself, is it, TD!
September 2, 2022 at 9:10 pm #198778Yep Carter, finger tips are key for the knuckler. Speaking of Niekro, I remember him saying an emery board/nail file was about the most important equipment he had.
September 2, 2022 at 9:10 pm #198779Yeah, I think you’re right about Abernathy, Euro. There was a big time eephus hurler from that era, but can’t think of his name. It couldn’t have been Phil Regan was it?
September 2, 2022 at 9:12 pm #198780Pugs…Most Redbird fans are wired with similar circuitry. The boards are sometimes a bit different, but the current flows in the same direction…

stlcard25ParticipantWhat was that pitch to Gorman…4 inches high? Geez.
September 2, 2022 at 9:34 pm #198782Oh oh…… Cubbies with runners on the corners with no outs here in the top of the 7th in a 3-0 St. Louis ballgame…..and that will do it for Montgomery.
September 2, 2022 at 9:38 pm #198783Hicks makes quick work of the first Cub he faces…..via a K.
September 2, 2022 at 9:38 pm #198784I’m sorry, but Gorman is a liability at the plate, strikes out ay too much, and fielding not That great either
September 2, 2022 at 9:39 pm #198785Baltimore now 9 games over .500. Haven’t seen that in quite a spell.
September 2, 2022 at 9:42 pm #198786Have to agree with you, Cdj. It might not happen for him this year. It’s getting to the point where you really can’t keep trotting him out there. I think he’ll get it together next year though.
September 2, 2022 at 9:42 pm #198787Real nice work from Hicks to hold on to the 3 run lead.
September 2, 2022 at 9:45 pm #198788Everyone I talked to was panicking when the O’s won 2 of 3 at Busch way back in May. Turns out Baltimore has a good ballclub.
