LHP Jordan Montgomery (7-3, 3.28) vs. RHP Adrian Sampson (1-4, 3.97)
BSM // KMOX //WIJR
Also BSSO and BSSW+September 1, 2022 at 5:22 pm #198648I’m as susceptible as the next guy insofar as allowing myself to become comfortable to the point of complacency when I see the Cardinals with a 6 game lead in the NLC to begin the month of Sept. It gets worse when I see the schedule has 14 of the next 16 games against opponents with horrendous W/L records. Then reality sets in when I recall that the Cardinals held a 6 game lead in the NLC to begin the month of Sept. in ’06 and had to win a ballgame at home vs. Mil. on the next to last day of the regular season to avoid having to travel to SF in order to play a single game make-up of a rainout earlier in the season to hold off an on fire and hard charging Houston team led by the scorching hot bat of Lance Berkman…It turned out okay, but at the time, I remember thinking that there was a genuine possibility that the legacy of that ’06 team could end up being similar to that of the ’64 Phillies. What a nightmare! Nothing’s ever easy.
September 1, 2022 at 6:31 pm #198653Take a few deep breaths TD. Think comforting thoughts. 6-4 in our last 10 isn’t exactly burning rubber down the stretch, but nobody is going to catch us if we just do what we are doing. Not that that is good enough. We will never catch the Mets at that rate.
September 1, 2022 at 7:26 pm #198656I will be able to view this game in full. Jasper has a road football game down in Evansville and I will not be going. It’s the Jasper Wildcats visiting the Evansville Reitz Panthers at the Reitz Bowl. Jasper comes in 1-1 after last week’s 20-15 upset loss to Evansville Harrison. Reitz comes in 2-0.
Goldy better get his act together as Freddie Freeman is starting to creep up on him in the batting race. But then again, what’s the big deal. I mean, batting average doesn’t mean anything anymore. It’s his fPUGS+ and his WIR and his -DRZ that really counts.

ParticipantI believe Reitz beat Harrison pretty handily so jasper better be ready to play ratsbuddy.
September 1, 2022 at 7:58 pm #1986591982willie,
Yes, that’s correct. But Jasper’s #1 QB was hurt and did not play. That would have undoubtedly made the difference in the game and probably prevented Jasper from fumbling five times in the game. There was confusion out there on offense. Having said that, I believe the Reitz Panthers are the favorites coming into this game.

September 1, 2022 at 8:13 pm #198660Yes, the Reitz( not related to Kenny) Panthers are indeed 9 point favorites in tomorrow’s game vs Jasper, Rat & Willie. However, Jasper’s wild Wildcats have a little surprise in store for these pesky Panthers, as Jasper wins this one going away by 6 points.
And our Cardinals owe these Cubbies some payback for beating us 2-3 in our last series at Busch. Montgomery should shut these guys down again…… I’ll call it 6-3 Birds with O’Neill flexing his muscles yet once again to the tune of a towering 2 run tater to dead center and a ringing double down into the left field corner.
September 1, 2022 at 8:34 pm #198661blingboy…Haha! I’ve calmed down and feel much better than at the time of that comment. Recurring flashbacks can be terrifying. You know…heart palpitations, labored breathing, a genuine sense of impending doom…Not at all unlike the onset of the precise symptoms I experienced immediately after Kozma botched the exchange at 2B during game 1 of the ’13 WS. These types of episodes may not be life threatening, but they’re certainly extremely unpleasant events for those of us who suffer through them from time to time…
September 2, 2022 at 2:04 am #198663Brewers lose 5-0 to Arizona…Cardinals are up by 6 1/2 games.
September 2, 2022 at 3:18 am #198664Gamecard…….I watched that game. The Brewers sort of looked like a team that isn’t playing with much intensity or emotion right now. And Yelich left the game in the 3rd inning I believe.
We might be up by 7-8 games after this weekend. Then again, it can turn in an instant so we need to keep the foot on the pedal.

September 2, 2022 at 5:16 am #198665Unfortunatly, the Mets took 2 of 3 from the Dodgers, winning Thursday 5-3. I notice from the box score that Kershaw was sailing along through 5 with 1 hit, 1 ER and 74 pitches, but did not take the mound for the 6th. The Mets then got to the Dodgers pen.

September 2, 2022 at 8:46 am #198683Without question, Yogi Berra is right up there with Aristotle and Plato insofar as his deep thoughts and insights on the human condition and the natural order of the universe, but his long time manager and mentor certainly deserves an honorable mention concerning careful deliberation and reasoning…I give you, “The Perfessor.”

September 2, 2022 at 1:31 pm #198699There is a big pile of green stuff just SSW of St. Louis at the moment. According to the Doppler Radar I would expect us to have either a delay or a postponement tonight. This is the 3rd time in less than a week that rain and storms have affected games.

September 2, 2022 at 1:48 pm #198701Good stuff boys! Now the Cards just need to stomp a mudhole in the Cubs 3 days in a row…
September 2, 2022 at 1:55 pm #198702Yep, I’m looking out the front storm door. No wet stuff yet, but it looks like it’s on the way. The household weather girl, Mrs. 1TD, informs me that it’s supposed to taper off by game time, but there’s a genuine possibility of a delayed start. She tells me I shouldn’t worry because we’ll have Redbird baseball action tonight. I once failed to yield to her advice when she suggested letting the water slowly run out of the faucet tap on a bitter cold February night and I certainly paid the price for neglecting to do so…
September 2, 2022 at 2:32 pm #198705Congrats to Pujols for breaking Bonds’ record the other night by homering off 450 different pitchers in his career. You just knew that record would stand until somebody broke it.
September 2, 2022 at 3:29 pm #1987071TD,
From checking out the latest Doppler Radar I suspect this game is going to be postponed tonight. I sure hope not as, like Pugs says, most doubleheaders are split. Maybe we will just have about a two hour delay, that would be better.I might have to end up watching the Rockies and Reds tonight from Riverfront Stadium. Then upon conclusion flip over to the Brewers and DBacks from the BOB – Bank One Ballpark.
Din-din today was a trip to the other Amish restaurant north of town, Lakeview. It sits on the lake. Catfish fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, dressing, sweet tea, and some soft serve vanilla ice cream.

September 2, 2022 at 4:38 pm #198710
jj-cf-stlParticipantIt’s a good thing Molina is in line for a red jacket. His 2022 slash line looks like DeJong’s did when he got demoted.
September 2, 2022 at 4:47 pm #198711Nado named as NL player of the month for August. He also received the award in April and is now the first Cardinal to win multiple player of the month awards in a season since Pujols in ’09. That oughta’ keep the rain away…
