Not much of a bluff by Yadi on that Nooty short fly to right……I guess there’s literally not one single person in the entire house who would believe Yadi would attempt to score on a play such as that.
September 2, 2022 at 8:09 pm #198739Carter, I threw a 3-seamer back in my days, one of the few to do that. It’s one less than a 4-seamer. 😉
September 2, 2022 at 8:11 pm #198740I couldn’t think of anyone I’d rather have in there than Donovan with a runner at 3B and 1 out. That’s what I get for thinking…
September 2, 2022 at 8:11 pm #198741We have a ballgame, gang. Cards have runners at the corners with nary an out with the top of the order coming up …….and we can’t score. Momentum to Chicago……. let’s hope it doesn’t last long.
Indeed TD …….you won’t see Donovan bounce into a twin killing very often in a spot like that.
September 2, 2022 at 8:13 pm #198742Wasssup Pugs?! Sounds like you’re enjoying the game more than those dreaded salt mines…
September 2, 2022 at 8:22 pm #198743Donovan did seem like a good guy to have batting in that spot. Now Monty having a rough go of it, but no runs yet. Pugs call on the momentum change looking right so far.
Edit to add, pitcher’s best friend just came along to get Monty off the hook.

That’s no help, Euro! What’s the grip and release???
BTW I had only 2 pitches in my arsenal: a change up, and a one hop ephusSeptember 2, 2022 at 8:32 pm #198745Yep, a wild turkey in one hand and the game thread in the other sure beats a 12 hour stint at the salt mines, TD
Carter in the house too……does it really get any better?
September 2, 2022 at 8:33 pm #198746Haha!…”One hop ephus” That’ll keep ’em honest!
September 2, 2022 at 8:34 pm #198747Pugs…Nope!
September 2, 2022 at 8:34 pm #198748BTW I have no idea what a 4 seamer is
A fastball gripped across the seams rather than along the seams as with a 2 seamer.
September 2, 2022 at 8:35 pm #198749Whoa…. for the Reitz/Jasper fans…. I just logged on to the Hometeam Friday Stream of the game….
6:41 left in the 4th Quarter….
Reitz 41
Jasper 7Jasper close to scoring again.
I don’t know if the Jasper QB is sitting this game or not. Just looked at the score only.
September 2, 2022 at 8:37 pm #198750Sorry Carter, just playing. But seriously, a 4-seamer is a fastball that rolls off the pitcher’s fingers with backspin and the spin of the ball is oriented so that you see 4 seams of the ball on a single rotation around the axis of rotation.
A 2-seamer is easy to figure out from there. Just take the 4-seam grip and rotate it 90 degrees and you have a 2-seam grip.
4-seamers usually get a little more velo and 2-seamers get more movement.
September 2, 2022 at 8:39 pm #198751Monte’s had to work out of some trouble tonight, but I haven’t seen a hard hit baseball by the Cubs yet.
September 2, 2022 at 8:39 pm #198752I bet George Kissell and Red Schoendienst are watching this one right along with us tonight.
Thanks for the Jasper update, Tscurlo! Rat’s boys are sure getting spanked tonight.
September 2, 2022 at 8:40 pm #198753I don’t know if the Jasper QB is sitting this game or not.
He might not be sitting out, but the defense is.
September 2, 2022 at 8:41 pm #198754Euro? You and Steve Stone are two peas in the same pod when it comes to baseball knowledge.
September 2, 2022 at 8:44 pm #198755After a long day at work, I could really use a Cardinal homer or two to spice things up.
September 2, 2022 at 8:45 pm #198756Now watch…..Gorman has 2 strikes on him….
September 2, 2022 at 8:46 pm #198757Is Steve Stone still broadcasting?
September 2, 2022 at 8:46 pm #198758And down he goes.
September 2, 2022 at 8:46 pm #198759This may be blasphemy to some, but watching 6’6″ lefty Montgomery pitch reminds me of a former Cardinal that had an excellent first year before injuries derailed his career, Mark Mulder.
September 2, 2022 at 8:47 pm #198760Yes, with the ChiSox, TD. There is no better analyst these days than Stoney.
September 2, 2022 at 8:48 pm #198761Pugs: Carter in the house too
I missed the Cubs rubber cuz I thought it was an off day…just my luck it was an xtra inning thriller. I was so pissed off I called my ex-wife and cussed her out!
September 2, 2022 at 8:49 pm #198762BTW I had only 2 pitches in my arsenal: a change up, and a one hop ephus
I’m not sure if this is Carter or Phil Niekro. If it’s Niekro, he had a mean eephus pitch. He could throw the 45 mph eephus as a setup, then blow the 70 mph knuckler by you.
