Not much of a bluff by Yadi on that Nooty short fly to right……I guess there’s literally not one single person in the entire house who would believe Yadi would attempt to score on a play such as that.
Carter, I threw a 3-seamer back in my days, one of the few to do that. It’s one less than a 4-seamer. 😉
I couldn’t think of anyone I’d rather have in there than Donovan with a runner at 3B and 1 out. That’s what I get for thinking…
We have a ballgame, gang. Cards have runners at the corners with nary an out with the top of the order coming up …….and we can’t score. Momentum to Chicago……. let’s hope it doesn’t last long.
Indeed TD …….you won’t see Donovan bounce into a twin killing very often in a spot like that.
Donovan did seem like a good guy to have batting in that spot. Now Monty having a rough go of it, but no runs yet. Pugs call on the momentum change looking right so far.
Edit to add, pitcher’s best friend just came along to get Monty off the hook.

A fastball gripped across the seams rather than along the seams as with a 2 seamer.

Sorry Carter, just playing. But seriously, a 4-seamer is a fastball that rolls off the pitcher’s fingers with backspin and the spin of the ball is oriented so that you see 4 seams of the ball on a single rotation around the axis of rotation.
A 2-seamer is easy to figure out from there. Just take the 4-seam grip and rotate it 90 degrees and you have a 2-seam grip.
4-seamers usually get a little more velo and 2-seamers get more movement.
Monte’s had to work out of some trouble tonight, but I haven’t seen a hard hit baseball by the Cubs yet.
I bet George Kissell and Red Schoendienst are watching this one right along with us tonight.

This may be blasphemy to some, but watching 6’6″ lefty Montgomery pitch reminds me of a former Cardinal that had an excellent first year before injuries derailed his career, Mark Mulder.

I missed the Cubs rubber cuz I thought it was an off day…just my luck it was an xtra inning thriller. I was so pissed off I called my ex-wife and cussed her out!
