Wow, the first time since 1920. I guess this saves Mlb paying big league salaries to whoever got drafted. Cheapskates.
Anyone know if the minor league portion of the draft will take place as scheduled? The above article only mentions the Major League portion….
There was conflicting info about this. On 12/2, BA said the minors phase will be held as planned, but I am working to confirm that.
How many players can be put on the Memphis roster to protect them from the minor league portion of the draft? I count only 27 on the Memphis website roster currently.
The minor league phase will be Wednesday. Unless the rules change, the Memphis roster can be up to 38 players, all of whom are excepted from the minor league phase. That special 38-man roster has no direct connection to the season-ending Memphis roster.
Thanks, Brian. Is there any way for us to know who all is on the 38 man roster? I noticed that there are 31 on the TCN roster Matrix.
The answer is “probably not”. Some years I can get it and some, I cannot. I do have a subscriber article on the home page which shows all of the Cardinals Rule 5 eligible players and on which roster I guess they would be placed.

To be clear, this is referring to the Major League Phase which was not held in December due to the lockout. The Minor League Phase occurred on schedule.
It may have been reported elsewhere already, but my understanding is the Rule 5 draft has been canceled for this year.

I think the Memphis Redbirds benefit from the Rule 5 Draft being cancelled because I think we would have lost Luken Baker otherwise.
Baker has Alonso’s potential bat with Junior Sample’s physique. It depends on which factor you focus upon.
