Is it just me or has there been an unusually high amount of batters getting plunked this year? That minor leaguer we have really takes the cake in the hit batsman department. I can’t think of his name, but he’s already beaned 5 batters this year….and that’s in only 3 2/3 innings of labor. If this disturbing trend continues, our dear Commissioner will probably start awarding 2 bases for getting plunked.
May 14, 2021 at 9:51 pm #161303Had my one brewski for the night. I’m relaxing with a cup of coffee and I just remembered a slice of cheesecake I still have in the fridge.
May 14, 2021 at 9:53 pm #161304Oh lookie lookie there. See the big long haired goofball in the green shirt sitting smack dab behind home plate. That’s not nice…. I’m sure he’s a very nice young man. But the dynamite looking blonde sitting two seats to his right(our left), would have RatsBuddy chirping until the cows came home if he sees her. I bet Rat and his pooch are fast asleep on his easy chair as we speak though.

stlcard25ParticipantIt’s pretty easy to see where this one is going…Oviedo walks the pitcher on 4 pitches. Ouch.
May 14, 2021 at 9:54 pm #161306Pugs—-I don’t know the record, but it does seem more hit batsmen this year .
A walk to the pitcher and hit batsmen gives the Padres 2 base runners.

ParticipantMan, I’m just not big on oviedo. I know lots of people are but I just see a pitcher that makes pitching look like work, kind of like gant. There just doesn’t seem to be a natural flow
May 14, 2021 at 9:54 pm #161308Oviedo having trouble finding the zone
May 14, 2021 at 9:56 pm #1613091982 willie… I’m with you… I haven’t seen anything in any of his starts that impressed me.
May 14, 2021 at 9:56 pm #161310After 2, down 0-1. Feels like it should be more.
May 14, 2021 at 9:57 pm #161311Be careful Oviedo….that runner nearly outhustled him to 1st. Well, with 42 heaves in only 2 frames, he won’t be around that much longer anyway. But…..I like the young man. If he plays his cards right, he’ll have a nice career.
May 14, 2021 at 10:03 pm #161312Hit and run with a 2-0 count.
May 14, 2021 at 10:04 pm #161313Ok. Maybe hit and run with a 2-1 count?
May 14, 2021 at 10:09 pm #161314Good AB by DC. 2 on 1 out. The door is slightly open… time for Goldy to push it open.
May 14, 2021 at 10:09 pm #161315You might be on to something Pugs. In 2019, the MLB HBP rate was 1.064%. This year it’s 1.225% thus far. That might not seem like much, but that’s a 15% increase, which would translate into about 300 more hit batters this season.
I think it’s universally acknowledged to expect more hit batters after a pandemic-shortened season.
May 14, 2021 at 10:10 pm #161316Neither of the starters will see the 6th. Maybe not even the 5th. A walk away from bases loaded
May 14, 2021 at 10:11 pm #161318Bases full… Nado at the plate… what’s going to happen?
May 14, 2021 at 10:13 pm #161319Nado not chasing.
May 14, 2021 at 10:14 pm #161320You’d think Musgrove may throw up a hanger here.
May 14, 2021 at 10:14 pm #161321Nado has an itch he needs to scratch.
May 14, 2021 at 10:16 pm #161322Another blown opportunity. Oviedo needs to have a quick inning.
May 14, 2021 at 10:16 pm #161323
stlcard25ParticipantMusgrove completely got away with a terribly fat pitch on 3-2. Arenado must have just not realized it was a fastball. Then grounds into the double play.
May 14, 2021 at 10:16 pm #161324Top of 3
Oviedo – Strikes out swinging.
Edman – Lines a base hit to right and the Cardinals have just won this game…..as the aforementioned 17-0 Cards mark when Tommy gets a hit this year might legitimately dictate.
Carlson – On 2-1, he crushes a foul ball to right 452 feet away….straighten that baby out Dylan. On 3-2 Dylan walks on a low inside heater. This kid is going to be so good. I think a much better career than JD Drew had, when it’s all said and done.
Goldy – Does he have the green light on 3-0? Not on a pitch a foot out of the zone, as Goldy will trot on down to 1st. Bases bubbling over with Birds with just one out…sweet.
Arenado – On 3-1 Nolan swings at ball 4….which was over but high. Oh no….4-6-3 twin killing extinguishes the Redbird threat.
Cards 0
SD 1Yadi –
May 14, 2021 at 10:17 pm #161325No luck for the Cards so far.
May 14, 2021 at 10:17 pm #1613261982 willie
ParticipantWell arenado had some pitches to hit but didn’t come through. Did the worst thing you could do in that situation. Fight on
May 14, 2021 at 10:19 pm #161327Great stats and even more spectacular reasoning for the 2021 hit batsman rate, Euro!
