Carp will have his productive ABs but he’s mostly a bench player who will get the occasional start. If teams continue to play the shift on him… I’d like to see Carp bunt every time because he can’t hit it to the opposite field and the only way he gets a hit pulling it…is HR.

To quote Pugs….taking a gander at the out-of-town scoreboard and baseball happenings we find that the Cubs have a 4-2 lead in the 9th at Detroit. Atlanta is up 2-1 at Milwaukee. And Wade Miley will not find himself in the same company of John Van Der Meer as he has allowed a hit early on at Colorado. No back-to-back no hitters for Mr. Miley tonight.

Also, the Pirates score a run in the last of the 9th to tie the Giants 1-1 and they head to extras at Three Rivers Stadium. Bottom of the 10th now and it’s still tied 1-1.

Time to hit the shower and then heat up the corn dogs in the oven so we can eat early in this one. Along with a Mt. Dew and what’s left of my homemade ice cream and a piece of chocolate cake I brought home from the Amish restaurant today.

As Pugs said, do not over-indulge on the brewskies. We have sophisticated software that can detect from your posts if you have crossed over the legal limit. We call them “cyber-slurs”.

Rats, very good impersonation of Pugs, but you gave yourself away with the “..at Three Rivers” part. That was classic Esteemed Rat right there.

Pugs—- I will limit myself to just 1-2 brewskis tonight as I need to be responsible as I have to get up at 430am to go to work. Tomorrow I cannot make such a promise as I’ll be off the next 2 days and the wifey and I are going out with my brother in-law and his girlfriend who are visiting from Walnut Creek. We are all going out to eat at our Favorite restaurant here in Lake Oswego. Usually I will have 2-3 spirit drinks. Manhattan, Collins, Negroni? Decisions decisions.

Only 1-2 brewskis and you’ll be eligible for lead vocalist for the Cardinal Nation Men’s Choir, David. Nice having the Esteemed One onboard for tonight’s game thread. That would be a first, as Rat always hits the easy chair come first pitch.

After our offense struggled against the Crew… it’d be nice to get off to a strong start and give Oviedo an early lead. And Pugs, I’d be honored to be the lead Vocalist.

No problem for me on the brewski limit tonight — I have none stocked. What about ice cream though? I bought a half gallon of Häagen-Dazs vanilla, which I haven’t done in a long time, and just had a cup. It is great stuff and I believe I could just about eat the whole tub tonight. I think I’ll have a shot of Scotch to quell the sweet tooth.

I wonder if that sophisticated software can detect ice cream or Scotch?

Promising start ends up with 2 runners stranded. On the HBP by DC… a great performance. He wasn’t overly convincing but did just enough to make you ask.. wait! Did he get hit?

    Musgrove dealing for SD

Edman – Cardinals are 17-0 when Tommy gets a hit this year. Grounds a slow run that is straddling the chalk down the 1st base line…Cronenworth gloves it…..is it fair?….yes they call it fair as he tags Edman for the out.

    Carlson – Hit by pitch

Goldy – Hard grounder past the SS Kim and out into left for a base hit….Carlson will have to stop at 2nd and the Birds are in business right off the bat here this evening.

Arenado – Hits a high drive to left that’s going to stay in the yard….Pham camps under it and had it for the out in pretty much straight away left field. Boy the sound of that ball off Arenado’s bat made one think one thing…..Home Run baby! But unfortunately in this case, baseball awards you nothing for loud thundering hit balls.

Yadi – Lines a shot….but right in the vicinity of Manny Machado’s webbing at 3rd base and that will retire the side.

This is not the start we needed. Oviedo must limit the damage.

I’d be careful, Euro. Like I said, I don’t know how those guys know how much alcohol we consume, but they do. We used to have this poster by the name of U F A N. Well one game he went just one beer over the 9 limit…..and Brian nailed him dead to rites. We haven’t seen U F A N since. I’d stick to the ice cream and save the scotch for first light tomorrow morning, Euro.

Sweet DP….of the 3-6-3 variety. Could have been much much worse that inning. 1-0 Pads

Good pitching to escape that first inning down by just a run.

They may soon change the Mendoza line to the Carp Line or DeJong line. I missed who was called up to replace DeJong.

Bader trying to get on base with a bunt. Not a bad idea… puts the D on their toes and perhaps makes the pitcher rethink his pitches.

Carp – Grounds one wide of 1st that Cronenworth will corral and then underhand feed the racing Musgrove who will best Carp to the bag for the out.

O’Neill – Pops it a mile high in back of 1st…. Cronenworth backpeddles as the right fielder O’Grady sprints in and it’s a stumbling Cronenworth who catches it. Definitely a ball that O’Grady should have taken command of.

Bader – Flys out routinely to O’Grady in right to retire the side.

Not a good idea for Bader to be swinging on 3-0. Schildt payed to much attention to Counsell last series. Of course if Bader hits a HR… it’s a great a managerial move.

Another hit batsman for a Cardinal pitcher. Never good to give the lead off runner first base. More times than not… that runner scores..

Tough Dp to turn but at least the lead runner was retired and still the dp is set up
