The Cardinal Nation’s #stlcards top 50 prospect countdown for 2019 continues to no. 45 with Julio Rodriguez, a 21-year old who shared the catching load with fellow prospect Dennis Ortega at Class-A Peoria. https://t.co/NkPPHEKdT9 pic.twitter.com/ZyExC2SLRY

November 18, 2018 at 8:51 am #74517Ranked 44th in The Cardinal Nation’s #stlcards top 50 prospect countdown for 2019 is a right-hander who seamlessly handled an in-season promotion and became Palm Beach’s top starter in 2018 – Jake Walsh. ($) https://t.co/lMC7rn2kfD pic.twitter.com/sDpY0yqDfF

November 18, 2018 at 9:13 am #74524These last 2 prospects I a very high on. I know Ortega needs moved faster, but I hope Rodriguez is given a chance at Springfield. With regular playing time I see a very good catcher who might hit 20 home runs, and I hope that his ceiling is higher than a career backup.
Walsh has impressed wherever he has went, and seems ready for a AA level challenge.
November 18, 2018 at 9:36 am #74536Does Ortega really need to move faster. Next year they will both be rule 5 eligible (Ortega is already this year).
November 18, 2018 at 9:51 am #74538One must also consider time remaining before minor league free agency, which could be a much bigger deal than Rule 5. It only stands to reason that when one player is signed more than two years before the other, and all things are otherwise fairly equal between the two, which one should be moved faster.
November 19, 2018 at 7:40 am #74588Coming in at no. 43 in The Cardinal Nation’s #stlcards top 50 prospect countdown for 2019 is Dennis Ortega, a 21-year old catcher who reinforced his considerable upside at Class-A Peoria in 2018. ($) https://t.co/8xiFxd4jzp pic.twitter.com/QaOi7M1z9u

November 19, 2018 at 8:55 am #74595Brian, I considered that when I made my comment but in 2 years Ortega should have at least completed a AA season. If he is not on the 40 man roster or selected in the rule 5 draft by then I doubt there will be concern about his minor league free agency.
November 20, 2018 at 8:13 am #74662Who is OF Joerlin De Los Santos and why did he place 42nd in The Cardinal Nation's #stlcards top prospect countdown for 2019 after his first professional season? ($) https://t.co/OMqXucADjH pic.twitter.com/JFL9XIzZG8

November 23, 2018 at 12:26 pm #74893I’ve never seen Jones pitch in person. How would you guys compare him to someone like Mayers or Brebbia?
November 23, 2018 at 12:28 pm #74894I wonder if Jones has ever tried a cutter? If he has that much movement on his sinker, why not try it?

November 26, 2018 at 10:15 am #75070Can a player be drafted in the MLB Rule 5, returned to his original team after not staying on the MLB roster, then drafted in Rule 5 again the next year?
November 26, 2018 at 10:51 am #75072Yes, I believe so. I have never seen a rule stated that once a player is taken, he is exempt in the future.

November 29, 2018 at 8:04 am #75314At 33rd on The Cardinal Nation’s 2019 top 50 prospect countdown is IF Ramon Urias, recently-added to the 40-man roster following his first season with #STLCards, coming from a league tainted by questionable business practices, the Mexican League. November 29, 2018 at 4:52 pm #75375I have Ramon Urias as a borderline top 100 overall prospect, and 7th/8th among Cardinals, neck and neck with Malcom Nunez. Struggled at AAA, but truly dominated AA — and in his first shot at American professional competition.
I think he’s going to hit, and the defense & baserunning shouldn’t be a liability. Although his batting will take a much different shape from Greg Garcia’s, I think Ramon will provide overall value roughly equivalent to Greg’s excellent 2015-2017 self. And a future great bench player warrants a borderline top 100 slot.
Nice extended blurb from the Commish today, about a Urias’ 3-homer game on Wednesday. Link: https://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/cardinal-beat/cardinals-mighty-mite-ramon-urias-smacks-three-homers-in-mexican/article_3dc9926b-fcd7-572d-8db0-ee90166e3183.html
