I forgot that “DH” also means “Double Header”. When I saw the “DH” on the game thread, my first thought was “..are the Cards and Reds using the designated hitter in this game?”.

As I recall the teams can recall a 26th player for the double header. I am assuming that would be PDL. Although with 1st of September looming, PDL can just stay up with big club afterwards.

    Hey BicycleMike,
Cool beans on messing up DH. On a similar note I never could figure out what a Mutiger was. It was the commercial for the Missouri University Tigers football team that FSMW shows. But I didn’t know what a Mutiger was. I knew it couldn’t be Missouri University since Missouri is MO and not MU.

Finally it dawned on me that it wasn’t mutiger.

Tomorrow is Sept 1st. Callup day and my wife’s birthday. Send all donations to ME not mutiger.

Speaking of that, I don’t know if they still have it at GABP, but in the earlier days, they had advertising for the team’s official website. I always got a chuckle from it. (Caps are mine to emphasize what I mean.)

The least Shildt could have done was to flip flop Carpenter and Bader in the order. I’ll miss our spark plug, Tommy Edman, today. I better see his name on that Game 2 lineup card.

Did anybody notice the article in the New York Times today (for those of you inclined to read the staid gray lady) about the infestation of flies in Karachi, Pakistan? The accompanying photo shows a guy in a street-side butcher stall, his hands and clothing absolutely covered in flies (ick). And he’s wearing a St. Louis Cardinals t-shirt (ick ick). Makes you wish he was a cubs fan.

As long as these were long flies, I think it wouldn’t be bad for our Cardinals to be associated, CardinalinFrance. If these Pakistani pests are your garden variety house flies, then yes, a cubbies cap would be a fitting representation.

Hopefully, the departed Angels pitcher memorials will fade away. How quick we were to honor guy who killed himself by bad choices. Maybe we should wait for autopsy results before scratching his name on the mound and wearing his number on all players sleeves MLB wide. It does make you wonder if the MLB drug testing program is alive and well at all. The young pitcher in Montgomery is much more deserving of our sympathies. He only lost his whole family to a nerdy brother-in-law.

Its apparent some posters on this site don’t know what they’re talking about with opiate addiction and rampant it is in this country. Its literally a national crisis, but lets mock and speak ill of the dead.

Matt Carpenter back in the leadoff spot? Nothing says trying to win like putting a deadweight in the leadoff spot.

Junior, I take opioids every day. I know them well but I don’t take them for pleasure and I am not addicted but I do have less pain in the back. There was no mocking and speaking ill of the dead but I was speaking ill of those who rush to award honors those who have died before the true cause is known. MLB has been silent since the autopsy results were published. I think MLB may have known the autopsy results before they were announced publicly. This player was taking drugs for pleasure not pain. He probably was addicted and, if so, he new wife probably knew it too. Other teammates may have also had an inkling but it seemed that nobody intervened.

My point was that yes we should grieve deaths of any person but don’t make a hero out of them until the cause of death is known. In the case of this player, it was a self inflicted accidental death but it should be a wakeup call for others in his position.

So if you want to educate us on opiate addiction go right ahead. I voiced my opinion of the event and honor your right to do the same.

Tommy Edman is starting in RF and Fowler in CF. Trying to get as many left-handed bats in the line-up against Bauer.

Game Card is that a change to the previous updated lineup that Brian posted?

    Pugs?

Jasper lost against last night. 21-17 to their arch-rival 7 miles down the road, the Southridge Raiders. They are now 0-2 on the year. Almost unheard of.

Pugs: It’s kinda hard to tell from the photo, but they they look a lot like pop flies, which I think our guys would much prefer to catch than to hit, so as soon as I can find the address for that street stall I’ll be mailing a couple of cub shirts.

4 games in 2 days is a great chance to get a jump on the division. Wow, what if we took all four? I guess we’ll see about everybody this weekend. Nobody left out this weekend!

We actually have 5 games in the next 50 hours. Our depth is going to be tested. Should be a wild ride. Buckle up.
