They will probably be shopping them this winter. As it turned out, the deadline trades were mainly trading the guys that weren’t going to be here next year anyway. And use those trades to firm up AA and AAA.
Saw where the Yankees tried to trade for Carlson but the Cardinals wanted a controllable pitcher and I guess the Yankees weren’t willing to give up that pitcher. With the log jam the Cardinals have with outfielders getting something would have been better than nothing. Though I’ve never never been a Carlson guy. I think Yankee stadium would be a good fit for him.
This Roby is an exciting looking prospect. He tremendous stuff. Any idea when, or if, he pitches again this season? He might be a candidate for the AFL.

Hahaha. When the Cardinals traded Enos Slaughter my Dad wore he would never drink another bottle of Budweiser beer as long as he lived. And to the best of my knowledge he held to that. Unfortunately, I don’t know what BDW sells that I can boycott should the need arise.
I have a close friend who used to own and run a small tavern in StL. His dad was was a retired Teamster driver and during the late 90’s the Lohr beer distributorship, who exclusively delivered Anheuser Busch products in the city of StL, locked out their beer drivers pre-empting a driver’s strike and replaced them with non union drivers. My friend stopped serving all Anhueser Busch products in his establishement until the thing was settled and only served Miller and PBR products as a gesture of support for the drvivers who had been unfairly locked out. I told him he was crazy and that the rash decision would drive him straight out of business. It had just the opposite effect. He told me his business tripled and stayed that way after word got around regarding what he was doing and why. Every union guy in the area made a point to patronize his small establishment and he hardly had the square footage to accomodate all of his thirsty and loyal customers. The local newspaper even did a story on him. There’s something to be said for loyalty and character.
I’m not sure what to do or say about it, but I don’t like seeing Scott and Mautz drop down 2 slots in the ranking, or seeing Baker and Bedell dropping down 3 slots in the rankings. No doubt, if there are errors in current assessments, time will tell the tale.
As I said on the subscriber board, the new guys are still shiny. But in backing them hard, it seems to undervalue the guys already here, just as you pointed out. If you think we are aggressive, take a look at the MLB Pipeline rankings. They put four of the new guys in the Cardinals Top 9!
Also agree that the ultimate proof will be on the field. The rankings can amuse us in the interim…
Never know when a dark horse prospect might come through. And when a highly prized prospect might fizzle. Examples are Nootbaar and Liberatore.
More times than not the entire thing boils down to a lottery ticket. No one had any idea who Jose Alberto Pujols was.

I think the event might have been more recognizable if it had been Rom (whoever that it is) striking out 10 in five innings in St. Louis. Your enthusiasm is scary sometimes. The fact is this organization is in free-fall. They don’t seem to understand what the problem is, what the solution is or in what direction they are heading. You might want to temper your optimism over Rom and the six greatest hitters in baseball until the day arrives where the Cardinals actually win the first round of the playoffs.

A big part of this site is tracking the minor leaguers in our system.
For a team that prides itself on building from within, when a guy we just got in a trade fans 10 in 5 innings at the AAA level, it’s news.
It shows he may have a higher ceiling than some thought. This thread is about guys we got in trades at the deadline. Reporting on how they’re doing is appropriate.
