The Yankees need a catcher and an OF, a Knizner and Carlson package could bring back something very good I’d think. Herrera has nothing left to prove in the minors, and I don’t believe Contreras has been as bad as advertised.

DeJong deal likely dependent on Bichette.

    Flaherty- who knows

I thought the Drew comp was interesting so I took a look. The concern with him was not production – it was staying healthy. TLR took shots at Drew for sitting out with “ouchies”. My partner at the time, Ray Mileur, had a jpg of a Pepto Bismol bottle he relabeled as “Drew Brew”. A lot of fans were down on him despite him playing well when in the lineup.

In his 13 full years in MLB, Drew was never a below league average hitter except for his first and last years. Drew improved his second and third years with his best year his age 25 season with a 161 OPS+ (full year three).

In his three years to date, only Carlson’s first year was above average (115 OPS+) with the bat and he has slipped in each of the last two years. This is his age 24 season.

They look like different trajectories to me.

For the Cards the trade deadline is usually about adding a piece or two for the playoff run.

This year is different for sure and is a lot spicier because if Mo doesn’t get some stuff right now and with FAs the Cards are in huge trouble.

Mo – the clock is ticking hard son. Get Flaherty gone and get us some young arms, lol

So Carlson isn’t a starting OFer but they need a young starter for him? Seems like their actions alternate between erratic and irrational.

Cardinals get a Class A, RH’ed, 24 yr. old relief pitcher from Toronto in exchange for DeJong. Same article mentioned the Redbirds are expected to promote Winn late enough this month to preserve his ’24 rookie status. At any rate, DeJong’s gone and Toronto’s chances at a post-season appearance just diminished.

We don’t need both Carlson and O’Neill.

Carlson, O’Neil, Burleson, Yepez – only need to keep 1 of these 4 guys.

We have never needed O’Neill. I’ve been begging for him to be traded for 3 years. They need to just do it already.

Yeah, they may get a little something in exchange for O’Neill.

I say go with the OF of Nootbaar, Carlson, Walker and Burleson on the bench. Hopefully Yepez can find it again. No way I trade him at this point, his value is super low. If they aren’t competitive again next year then Goldschmidt will be traded and 1B could open up for Walker, Burleson, or Yepez if one wants to step up and claim it. If they are competitive then hopefully Yepez has regained some traction and he or Burleson could be moved for other needs then.

Need either Carlson or O’Neill for the defense. I’d rather have Carlson, but we need pitching more.

Seems like Johnny’s had a hotline to Toronto for a long time. I’ll bet he’s good at curling.

I don’t think they’ll ever win with either Yepez or Burleson at 1B.

    How about this:

Carlson to Yankees, Nolan Gorman (or Brendan Donovan) to the White Sox, Yankees also give something to the White Sox, and Sox send Dylan Cease to the Cards. Cards could also give Sox some high profile but non-elite prospect like Baez or Hjerpe. Depending who the Yankees add to the mix, this could be the strongest offer the White Sox receive.

Dylan Cease should be the target even if the Birds must overpay from their numerous redundancies. Maybe the Pale Hose would like Ollie Marmol as a throw-in….

Both Donovan and Gorman are on my please do not touch list. I think Donovan will be consistently good for several seasons and that Gorman will eventually tater-up close to 40 times in a season.

Yeah, Bob Reed, it’d be nice if they’d take him too. I once guessed that after he’s eventually fired by the Cardinals that he’ll never manage a Big League team again, but who knows? Even Vern Rapp was hired by the Reds in ’84, six years after the Cardinals placed him in the soup line. But not for long…Rapp was fired in July of ’84 and replaced with none other than Pete Rose…Haha!

I’d rather send O’Neill and Baker to KC for Barlow and A+ SP Barnett. Barlow goes into Hicks spot, and is controllable for next season when hopefully they are competing, Barnett just another pitching prospect to keep hoarding right now. O’Neill and Baker give KC some offense. Finish out with Mikolas, Matz, Wainwright, Hudson, Liberatore as SP and then retool it in the off-season.

Cards want to hold onto O’Neill. Excellent power, excellent defense, etc. Ty’s big question mark is his health. He’s under control through 2024.

O’Neill, Nootbaar, and Walker starting in the OF next season. Carlson is the odd man out, and would bring the best haul because he can’t be a free agent until 2027. And he has a high (unrealized so far) ceiling. Potential to be a good all around asset. O’Neill or Nootbaar can cover CF moving forward. Or even Edman.

I think you are correct bccran.
