February 23, 2023 at 11:38 am #213118I received a note from a good customer asking about the $5 price increase for the 2023 Guide in book form. I thought I would share my reply with everyone.
I feel very badly about the price increase. However, I had no choice as my costs are up substantially.
Printing costs increased by more than 25% from last year – and that is with a new printer who I hope will provide as good quality as the old. The prior printer’s price increase was almost 40%! After using them for five years, I had no choice but to switch companies.
The Postal Service has also increased mailing costs twice in the last year and I cannot sell the books at a loss. My choice was either raise the price while taking a lower profit or just selling the PDF.
I can offer that the scouting reports are all new, better and more detailed than we’ve ever had before. The only carryover section, the History chapter at the end, has been fully updated for 2023. I think it will be worth your money.
Thank you for your prior business!
Brian Walton
February 23, 2023 at 12:06 pm #213120An update for those who pre-ordered the Book. If the winter storm doesn’t slow UPS down, I should have the shipment on Monday. So your books will go out later that day or Tuesday morning, depending on time of delivery.

March 1, 2023 at 10:00 pm #213398It was fun for me going through BW’s Prospect Guide and seeing Masyn Winn rated as having an 80/80 arm. I don’t recall ever seeing any prospect with an 80/80 anything. I’m not questioning it. But I just haven’t seen it before. I have to think there was a prospect somewhere that had 80/80 speed, but I have no idea of who that would be.
March 2, 2023 at 5:07 am #213402Thank you for your order, Mudville.
March 2, 2023 at 5:28 am #213404I am still in negotiations with my wife. I prefer the hard copy, which I like siting on the end table next to my chair. But it is not resistant to accumulating coffee mug rings and such, nor to being grabbed and chewed on by her fluffy lap dog, which is shockingly undisciplined. Two years ago, it became such a sight she would not allow it sitting out in the living room. Last year I caved and got the digital version, which I used far less often, but admittedly it did not get chewed on or otherwise eventually become unsightly. Its like I’m standing at one of Yogi’s forks in the road.
March 2, 2023 at 6:51 am #213406Yes you could be in trouble this year. For the first time, the book has a red back cover and red spiral bind, making it even more appealing as a chew toy.
On the positive side, both covers are plastic. So there’s that.

Winn set a record for fastest infield throw in the statcast era (100.5 mph, the MLB record is 97.8 mph) last year. I can’t find the article now, but I also read that had he been in the majors, his average throw would have far topped the list of infield arms. In this case, I think the 80 is warranted. He’s a unique player, for sure.
March 2, 2023 at 8:24 am #213413Accurate as well as fast. He could play defense now but his bat needs more development time. I liked what I saw in his limited action in StL games so far. Especially with Edman away, there should be more coming.
March 2, 2023 at 2:30 pm #213420As if on cue, he did this today…
This throw by @MasynWinn to end the top of the 6th was registered at 99.9 MPH! 👀 pic.twitter.com/WTg5OZWoA5

March 2, 2023 at 4:26 pm #213428bb – If you can talk the Mrs. into buying the book version, then the digital version only costs you 12 bucks. That’s what I did because now I have the digital ready and available on my computer, and the book version gets used slightly less so I don’t have to have it lying around which, by the way, bothers my Mrs., also.
March 2, 2023 at 5:09 pm #213431Marmol mentioned on the post game that they thought the runner had beaten out the hit, but Winn’s throw changed the outcome. Oli was very impressed, but noted Winn needs more growth on offense.
March 2, 2023 at 5:12 pm #213432A clarification. You don’t have to buy the book to get the PDF at half price. Being a subscriber is all that is required. It is my small thanks to you for your support.
But yes, some do get both. I’ve been told that people have the PDF on their phone or tablet to view while at the ballpark.
I could have saved a few bucks by ditching the spiral bound, but is so much more convenient to use this way that I had to keep it.
March 2, 2023 at 5:27 pm #213433Good idea mud. I will roll out that tactic when she gets home. The plastic covers will be my dry powder.
August 28, 2023 at 3:27 pm #232700Just a quick heads up that only three 2023 Prospect Guide books remain and no more will be printed. If you were on the fence, now is your time to step up!
