Agree with the last two posters. The thin pen due to injuries is starting to impact games. We knew the starters were a bunch of 5/6 inning guys. The offense isn’t creating enough breathing room, requiring back end relievers to be used in non-mop-up situations. These important factors are independent of who is managing.
The Winn sore back all year narrative sounds a lot like last year when we heard that Carlson’s problems were probably due to nursing something or other all year.
Uh, you do remember that Carlson required ankle surgery last September, right? So “the narrative” as you call it, was the truth. How boring when there’s no conspiracy…
This example is not relevant to Winn taking extra days of rest, anyway, as he is playing well. Carlson wasn’t playing well before his surgery so some may have been looking for an excuse/explanation. He also hasn’t played well after his surgery, as we all know.
Carlson hasn’t played well since his rookie season in ’21. Someone else mentioned that since then he’s degenerated to being the sort of player that the Cardinals may well choose to non-tender.
That was a tough one. Seems like the kind of game where you look back and say, “that Houston game seemed to be where we started to slip.”
Maybe not, but leading 4-3 and needing six outs to secure the win is one we don’t have the luxury of giving up. Also you hit three homers, you expect to win.
