Homemade pot pies tonight. Ingredients from that roast and taters in the crock pot yesterday. That stewy broth is good stuff.

I was about the same age, Rats, and I recall that my dad acted as if he was thoroughly convinced that the entire fiasco was preplanned and by design so that the Cubs would have a hand in preventing the Cardinals from winning the division…Haha! That was two consecutive seasons in which the Redbirds narrowly missed winning the NLE.

1974 the year Sweet Lou got robbed on the MVP! We played great that year! Brock’s base stealing that year was amazing!

Yeah Steve60, you got that right. I can’t wait until they release the 1974 Season in Strat-O-Matic. It will be great to have Brock running wild all the time! Plus their entire outfield that year – Brock, McBride, Smith – all hit over .300!

Yeah, two Dodgers, Garvey and Marshall, took home the NL MVP and NL CYA in ’74. Bake McBride of the Cardinals won the NL ROY that season. Bake managed to collect 30 SB’s, but was a little overshadowed by Lou’s 118…Haha!

Jimmy Wynn was a big fan favorite in LA that year as well. The Dodgers farm system really produced with Garvey, Cey, Buckner, Lopes, Russell, and Ferguson. Adding Marshall for Willie Davis, and Wynn from Houston really put them together.

Yeah, they had some really good teams in the 70’s, but just couldn’t get past the A’s or Yankees.

Couple of sweet din-dins from Rat and JJ on this fine Saturday evening. I went to Johnny’s Steakhouse for a medium rare ribeye, baked potato, asparagus spears and on the way home I swung on by Popeye’s drive-thru to secure 3 apple cinnamon pies.

A 4-6-3 twin killing erases both a Mikolas walk and any aspirations Chicago had of denting the scoreboard in the top of the 1st.

Donovan comes up just a few feet shy of a leadoff homer, as Trachman reaches up and snatches it for the out.

Goldy whacks a tailing Taillon fastball into right for a 2 out hit. Then Arenado whiffs to retire the side.

Another 4-6-3 inning ending DP polishes off the cubbies. I wonder what th ML record is for DP’s in one game? Or the record for consecutive inning 4-6-3 twin killings? These most likely are questions best left for Skippy and all of the fine folks over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau.

I think it’s kaka that a 30 year old guy who has been playing pro ball in another country is eligible for Roy in MLB

Missed the fastball up on 3-2. Was sitting on it too. Good pitch.

KeepComingBack and JJ’s posts referring to both the prestigious RoY award and Burly…….it’s early, but wouldn’t Burly be in the RoY conversation? Burly and Winn are getting there.

I looked it up and the record for GIDP’s in a single game is 7, and was set by the SF, Giants who were victimized by the HOU, Astros in May of ’69. The Astros won that game 3-1. The PIT, Pirates were also victimized by 7 DP’s in Aug. of 2018, but only 6 of the 7 were of the GIDP variety. The Pirates lost that game to the CHI, Cubs by a score of 1-0.

Mikolas sets them down in one pretty little 1-2-3 chorus line in the 3rd….but there goes our consecutive inning 4-6-3 twin killings streak….Mikolas with only 25 offerings thru 3.

If Burleson ends up hitting .400, they may consider overlooking that expired rookie status…

Donovan and Nooty with 1 out singles results in Cardinals manning the corner bases here in the bottom of the 3rd in a scoreless ballgame.

Goldy – Nooty swipes 2nd base without a throw. Goldy with an rbi ground out plates Donovan.

Arenado – Been awhile since he’s accrued an rbi…..like 5 games worth. And Arenado singles to center scoring Nooty…..2-0 Good Guys.

Burly- Drills a base hit to left center field with Arenado cruising on over to 3rd.

Gorman – Grounds out to the 1st baseman unassisted.

Two out RBI’s should count for more than 1 run…
