LHS Matthew Liberatore? vs. Jameson Taillon?
FOX // KMOX // WIJRMay 22, 2024 at 8:32 pm #253274Schedule wise, Robberse would have been the guy, and he had been the cream on the Memphis staff. But then he had the lumbpy outing Saturday, I think it was, and it seems like the narrative has shifted from looking for an alternative to Libby to there isn’t an alternative to Libby.
May 25, 2024 at 4:19 am #253476Friday’s rain out solved the rotation problem this turn. Mikolas will start this game.
May 25, 2024 at 8:27 am #253491Double win today. No Liberatore or Imanaga.
Per Cubs, Shota Imanaga will be pushed to the next series.
Saturday — Jameson Taillon

I wouldn’t count on it. After we take down the cubbies today, they very well may be tempted to have him square off against Sonny tomorrow night. That’s of course as long as he didn’t toss a bunch of preparatory pitches last night? I was toiling away at the ol’ salt mines until 7pm, so did not see the happenings leading up to last evening’s wash-out. But if we don’t get a shot at Shota in this series, maybe that’s a good sign that things are starting to turn around(in a good way) for our Cardinals. It never ceases to amaze me how unusually fortunate winning baseball teams have historically been…..in many areas. Missing an opposing team’s Ace with much greater frequency than what is statistically probable over the course of a season is just one of these.
May 25, 2024 at 9:56 am #253501Taillon and Assad have both been really good too for them. And that’s the two we still draw. But it’s better than getting all 3 of their best. Steele has been lackluster after a great year last season. And Hendricks has been the worst starter in baseball and got moved to the pen.
May 25, 2024 at 10:05 am #253504Bullpen should be loaded for bear.
Cards need to continue trudging back to .500.
As my dear old dad used to tell me, “Nothing good happens after midnight or below .500”
May 25, 2024 at 10:07 am #253505I would still say Robberse looks like the guy to take Liberatore’s spot if Liberatore doesn’t pitch well. Robberse had one bad outing, and he has been pitching well in a very hitters friendly IL where the average ERA is 4.96. I wouldn’t expect Robberse to be amazing, but to pitch more like a #5 and at this point, we need that. Obviously we need a true #2 and #3 in our rotation as well, but I don’t see any hope of that until (and importantly if) Hence or Roby are ready.

jj-cf-stlParticipantCubs save Imanga for MIL series next. Good, he faces them, not us. Hang an L on em’ Shoto.

Did it really solve it? Mikolas hasn’t exactly been a go to starter so far this season. Hopefully he has a good outing.
May 25, 2024 at 12:39 pm #253512I was hoping to see Shogun Chimichanga take his turn. I wonder why Counsell decided to bypass the rookie pitcher. Best I can tell, he hasn’t worked since last Sunday, so if he doesn’t pitch in this series it’ll be at least 8 days since he took a turn in the Cubs rotation. Seems silly to me.
May 25, 2024 at 12:40 pm #253513Maybe he has a hangnail…
May 25, 2024 at 12:48 pm #253514Could be, ZTR. Might have hurt himself with his Katana. It happened to Matheny and he’s from Ohio…
May 25, 2024 at 12:54 pm #253515Who is going to pitch the Cincinnati series now that the rainout has skewed things?
May 25, 2024 at 1:03 pm #253517Probably Lynn, Gibson, Liberatore
May 25, 2024 at 1:06 pm #253518Despite not getting enough rain to dampen our garden bird bath, I guess it’s better to declare a washout than to begin the game and then suspend play. Especially when they’re probably going to tell the fans that they won’t be permitted to return the following day to see the conclusion of the game they were watching…
May 25, 2024 at 1:13 pm #253519Oh the series in in Cincinnati. At least the Reds offense has been putrid, but Lynn and his himer tendencies + a hitters paradise doesn’t bode well.
May 25, 2024 at 2:01 pm #253524If I’m not mistaken Japanese pitchers are used to pitching every six days in Japan because they use a six man rotation. Maybe the Cubs thought Shoto could use some extra rest. Either way it is a big break for the Cardinals. Our lineup has too many lefties to be effective against a nasty LH starter.
Sorry JJ but we should never ever root for the Cubs to win a game even if it is against the first place Crew. If the Cards can’t win the division I would much rather see the Crew win it than the gross Cubbies.
May 25, 2024 at 2:16 pm #253528I didn’t know that, GS, but I took a look at his Big League turns in the Cub’s rotation and 8 of 9 of his starts have indeed come after 6 days rest. In any event, if he takes his next turn Monday in MIL, it’ll be on 8 days rest.
May 25, 2024 at 2:31 pm #253530We were rooting for the Cubs to win in Oct. of ’74 when that bum Swisher dropped strike 3 on what would have been the final out of the game and then committed the throwing error to allow Pittsburg to tie the game and eventually win to avoid a one game play-off with the Cardinals who’s season ended as a result of the bizarre play. Can’t depend on those lousy Cubbies for anything…

May 25, 2024 at 3:11 pm #2535371td,
I was 15 years old when that game happened. I remember listening to it on the radio. The local radio station that carried St. Louis games had this one on the radio since the Cards game was rained out in Montreal. I remember the Pirates announcer, Bob Prince, when it was time for a station break/commercial saying”“This is the Pittsburgh Pirates/St. Louis Cardinals radio network….”
Needless to say that loss, that screw up by the Cubs and Swisher, was something I took very hard.

Thanks BlingMay 25, 2024 at 3:15 pm #253539I just checked the Doppler Radar. It shows all clear in the Midwest. At least up till around game time. Funny, there’s little to nothing on the radar but they are saying there’s a very good chance the Indianapolis 500 will be postponed due to bad weather tomorrow.
Oh, and by the way, din-din today was a Hungry Man’s Roasted Turkey TV dinner, a couple of Chip’s Ahoy Chunky Chocolate Chip cookies, a bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream, and an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew.
Anyway, me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch tonight for first pitch. Along with a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars during the game. And if this game is a blowout we can switch over to the Dodgers and Reds from Riverfront Stadium. Then later tonight an episode of Mannix along with another cigar. And then real late tonight an episode of Mission Impossible and another cigar.
