You’ve got to win the games with your ace on the mound against a bottom dweller. Thankfully, the offense did just enough to get the W. Let’s get back to .500 today.
30th in mlb, at CF, with over double the negative value of the 29th team. Lets just sit on our hands and hope, like last season, because it easier than trying to improve.
The Cardinals knew all offseason they needed a backup SS and a backup CF. They proceeded to waste a space on the roster for “leadership” purposes.
They did get a backup SS, and some people can’t understand why he actually plays in games. That is the difficuly of signing someone to backup one position, as opposed to signing a utility player who can back up multiple positions.
There’s another CF on our roster now.
We don’t have to let Scott bury himself. He was demoted from ST for good reasons, that haven’t changed.
Talk to Walker about any CF depth issues. The FO had CF covered, even with Edman as a late arrival.
There must be a reason they are standing pat with Scott, but I sure don’t understand it.
Does anybody else feel like the org has already waved the white flag on the season?
Maybe not the white flag, but they are depending on the farm to produce useful replacements for when the vets falter.
Really though, it’s fairly unexpected that the offense has been so inept. Scott/Siani don’t help but Donovan, Winn, Contreras, Herrera have been as good or better than expected basically. Noot is back. It’s really been the cliff walk for Goldy and Arenado and neither of Gorman or Walker taking any step forward. It’s troubling for the major league staff to have so many guys with promise stagnate (remember all the talk about comps for Carlson and Walker at their ages? They aren’t aging well right now, literally).
If we’re still 3 games back in the NLC, on July 1st, we’re buyers right?
I hope the boys force the FO to be buyers.

I thought so when:
1) They signed Gibson & Lynn
2) They signed Carpenter
3) They did not extend GoldschmidtThe whole offseason just seemed like they are planning for a selloff at the trade deadline and hoping to be competitive next year.
I cannot understand why Scott isn’t bunting at least once a game. When Winn got on and Siani bunted him over, I was like, “I would have Scott bunt here as well – he might just beat it out.”
Had he bunted and even if it had been a sacrifice, Winn would have scored on the wild pitch had the sequence been the same.
Regardless, you have a guy who cannot hit .100 but has world class speed. Why in the world are you not at least seeing what he could do by laying one down now and then?!
But then there are so many things to question about the decisions this management team makes that you could go on and on. Just a poorly run group right now.
I saw where the Phillies had a scare with Kyle Freeland. Collision at home plate trying to score the go ahead run in the 9th. As a pinch runner.
Its April and they act like its October win or die trying. We’re acting like its March and the games don’t count.
Freeland is actually a Rockie. Brings back the thought of the time Frank Frisch used Dizzy Dean as a pinch runner in the 1934 World Series. Dean was on first and the batter hit a double play ball, with the relay hitting Dean square on the head and knocking him out.
Diz recovered of course and made the classic comment, “They x-rayed my head and found nothing.” 🙂

I have never really gotten that impression. We are still within striking distance of a playoff spot and if we remain that way until July we will not see a selloff like last year. I don’t think ownership wants to see another batch of empty seats in August and September.

I don’t think management believes they have waved the white flag, they just are not very good. Early returns on the Sonny Gray signing look promising. But bringing in all these old guys for “leadership” and making lack thereof as a key reason why they were bad last year is a deflection of the fact that management has done a poor job.
