Not cooking din-din tonight Rats, just got back from Whopper Land. Not too sure about that line up. Dexter instead of Edman leading off? Two dead bats DeJong and pitcher together at the end of the order? Not what I would have come up with. Looks like they made a change but were afraid to make very much of one. Hope they prove me wrong.
The lineup needed an infusion of energy, but I would’ve done something at the top of the order. Expecting Fowler to do anything now seems out of touch with the reality of the last several weeks. I would’ve had Edman at the top. But obviously Shildt’s willing to go down with whatever tone Fowler can set.
Watching three pitches and four overall fall outside the strike zone that inning has me convinced the electronic strike zone shouldn’t be far away. You just can’t hit if the pitcher is given a large strike zone.
Just when you think they can’t be any worse than they’ve been there is that base running ignorance by Ozuna.
Double was a great start. Base running gaffe put a huge dent in any momentum that was there. Strike zone appears wide … swing if it is close.
Ozuna erases his nice double with mindless base running. Other than, it’s the usual — no life at the plate. Scoring a run off Strasburg looks next to impossible tonight. Maybe Jack can throw 7 shutout innings and make it a pen game. Seems to be the path to victory if there is one.
Jack rears back and throws one 97 past Suzuki to end the 2nd. Hopefully the offense can show some life soon.
Dejong looks bad out there. Is the book completely out on him? He’s just about the definition of a poor hitting glove guy right now. He has a little power and that’s it.
DeJong actually had a good, professional AB. Fowler on the other hand has looked pathetic both times. No one would’ve expected that — great call, Shildt.
Not great positioning for the Cards. Normal positioning makes that an easy out. Instead it’s 1-0 Nats. Insurmountable??
We fall behind early for the 3rd game in a row. This series is really looking like the 2004 World Series. The team we play had to win all of the remaining games to get to the next round – they become a buzzsaw and take it to us – we never have a lead etc etc.
Nats to get Flaherty in the 3rd, scoring the first on a single by Eaton to drive in Robles. That doesn’t do much for the Cards’ win probability with the offense still stuck in reverse.
Now Rendon flubs one that Ozuna can’t get to. People still want this guy back? Defense now killing us.
The lack of support, at the plate and in the field, has killed Flaherty. The 3rd inning has been brutal for him and the Cards chances. You just can’t be perfect no matter how good you are. He won’t be going 7 tonight.
