I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a game end on a pop out to the pitcher. They’ve now won the first two games of this road series by scoring in only one inning each game, and with Carp striking out like it’s his job. This redbird team is finding all kinds of ways to win.

A fan could get ulcers with this team. You never know which players will make the key plays.

I always have gotten a blank instead of an image. Anyway, I don’t want to ruin the mood with tech stuff, so I’ll try in another thread tomorrow.

I remember when Euro and I got into a little spat earlier in the year after a loss and agreed that we’d have better things to celebrate later. Well, I think later has come, Euro!! 👊👍

I was just kicked back fantasizing about what it would be like to have a complete bullpen of nothing but real bonifide closers. Plus, as an added bonus they all worked together….some acting in the mop up role and then when the time suited, as the closer….with none of them getting jealous that another was getting better opportunities. We just may have a good start with Hicks, Gant and when Carlos returns. Then just say Miller regained top form…..and Brebbia kept getting better.

Winners find different ways to win. Thus far, we have seen almost everyone do something at some time that keyed a win. When the bottom of the batting order keeps coming up with the ways to win, it keeps the other team on edge.

    1) we were quite fortunate on the placement on that game-ending popup. It’s hang time was very low. Anywhere else and it could have dropped.

    2) someone pointed out that Wong’s foot was out of the box on his bunt. Dodged a bullet.

Good side notes, So Cal Cards!

If I were told beforehand that our Top 4 batters in the lineup would go a combined 1-16 and that Waino would surrender 2 round trippers, I would put our chances for victory st about 1-100. Speaking of round trippers, is it just me or has the Redbird staff given up an eye popping amount of solo homers this year? Two more last night.

I remember Mike Shannon telling a story about Bob Gibson giving up 4 solo homers, but the Cardinals winning 5-4. Challenge hitters and throw strikes and good things will happen.

Loved the bunt by Wong! I have said all this young season that he needs to do that now and then. He should give it a shot at least once a game when facing a lefty.

Carpenter may want to do that as well. He’s really struggling and does not seem to be picking up the ball very well. Try bunting a few times – it forces you to watch the ball. Back in the day, coaches always had us do that to snap out of a slump.

I’m thinking that’s how they snapped Dexter out of his 12 1/2 month slump, BicycleMike. Position Hicks halfway ( that’s 30 feet to the layman ) towards home plate and have Dexter do nothing but try to bunt some of Hicks’ most filthy pitches. That alone usually gets the player back on track, but if it doesn’t, Shildt need only threaten the slumping Bird that he’ll need yet another bunting session with Hicks….and that is guaranteed either to bring him around or he’ll ask to be traded….win win either way.

Was Hicks unavailable last night? Maybe too many appearances?

I believe Hicks had pitched three days in a row so, yes, I am confident he wasn’t available last night. Assume he will be back in the mix tonight (Wednesday night) as we try and cling to a slim lead in the late innings.
