September 29, 2019 at 4:55 pm #109404Postseason baseball — NLDS, that is. A one-game wild card will always seem like more of a play-in to me than the start of the actual postseason. So glad it’s the Brewers-Nats who have to deal with that.
It’d be nice if today’s offense would carry over some to Atlanta. Hopefully with 3 days rest, the pen can get their arms and minds reset.
September 29, 2019 at 4:56 pm #109405Wow, just wow! What an amazing second half. Congratulations to everyone associated with this team. There were some hard times but a whole lot of great times. New season starts in a few days. Hope they continue the effort and bring home number 12! Again just amazed and so happy for them.
September 29, 2019 at 4:59 pm #109406After May and June, the realistic fan would have never thought we’d be in this situation but the optimistic fan never gives up hope. Congratulations on battling through an up and down season on the way to capturing a division title.
September 29, 2019 at 5:04 pm #109407Is the LDS best of 5 or 7? I’m sure it’s 5, I just need confirmation
September 29, 2019 at 5:04 pm #109408Awesome win today, simply awesome. Needed a big win and they did it.
September 29, 2019 at 5:17 pm #109415Shildt’s speech:
Mike Shildt: "We don't have any team meetings, but we do have three more left: When we pop champagne after the Division Series, When we pop champagne after the Championship Series and when we When we pop champagne after the World Series." #TimeToFly pic.twitter.com/ofyjAxbH7g

September 29, 2019 at 5:18 pm #109416Can I get a “heck yeah” for Mr Flaherty?!? If it wasn’t for him, the Cards would be out at ballpark village with the Cubs stealing our women and vodka!!
September 29, 2019 at 5:21 pm #109417Back where we should be! NLC champs heading to the NLDS. Way to go, Cards! See you Thursday in ATL!
September 29, 2019 at 5:30 pm #109418Milwaukee and the Rockies tied 3-3 in the 11th.
At all-star break, I didn’t think we had a chance of this. After losing four straight this week, I wasn’t so sure entering today.
It is remarkable that the people who stepped up today were those who hadn’t stepped up in weeks. Any more, it is always Edman or Bader, maybe Molina, who makes it happen. They did nothing today. Flaherty is good.
September 29, 2019 at 5:44 pm #109420Dave, best of 5
September 29, 2019 at 5:54 pm #109423Both views accurate:
Pessimist: Cards won the division for first time since 2015.
Optimist: Cards won the division for the fourth time in the last seven years.September 29, 2019 at 6:11 pm #109424Put em on yer back Jack!
Wonderful to do it on our own
Lots of crow to be eaten for lots of people out there and in here.
We probably have a little to eat.
Go Cards!
September 29, 2019 at 6:15 pm #109426Rockies 4-3 on a WP in the 13th.
September 29, 2019 at 6:34 pm #109427Go Rockies! Congratulations Cardinals!
September 29, 2019 at 6:58 pm #109428Great way to close out the regular season. Gotta say, I called it back in June when I thought this could go the way of ‘64 – lots of under-performing players and a team that seemed better than their record. We were the exact same 40-41 at the halfway mark as the ‘64 club. We fell a couple of wins shy of that team, but got enough to get the job done.
Now on to Atlanta. We could possibly have Flaherty go in games two and five of that series. Steal win in the opener and have Flaherty for game two would be a nice way to go. Maybe a game five would not be necessary!.
September 29, 2019 at 7:07 pm #109429That is the kind of Cards games I like to see. I have read all the messages but few have received the message that Joe Maddon sent. Joe was an ardent Cards fan growing up. The Cubs are out of the playoffs. Derek Holland pitched an 8+inning 2 hit game against us in the 2011 World Series. The same Derek Holland no longer exists. This season he was rather unceremoniously dumped by the Giants and picked up by the Cubs for their pen. This was supposed to be a pen game for the Cub so Shoeless Joe, a man without a home, decided to start the dregs of his pen, Derek Holland, and let him go against the Cards with the results being as expected. He even left him in for the 3rd inning before be brought in some other nonachievers from his pen. In a word, it is my opinion, that Shoeless Joe was telling Theo to stick it where the sun don’t shine by starting one of his least respected pen pitchers. No mistake, the Cards had to take advantage of it and they did but they have killed brother Holland earlier this season as I recall.
So thanks to a great Cards team that finally got their heads up and bats working. A good start to take into Atlanta. The postseason roster should be interesting but I doubt Mr Shildt will include any surprises. Only Tommy Edman will be included from the rookies. I think either Ravelo or Arozorena would do well in place of Munoz but they don’t play the right positions for that. See them next season.
Go Cards and take down the braves. PS: Brush up on your infield fly rule as the Atlanta natives get rather frosted when they think an ump blows a call regarding that rule. We should put a Kozma jersey on DeJong – that would drive them nuts……LOLOh, somebody please tell Danny Mac that every team plays every other team in their division 19 games per season. He keeps saying 18.

Participantgreat pitching by Flaherty today. threw very few pitches too so he is set up pretty good for the playoffs. goldy, fowler, and ozuna hit better today which is great. obviously we are gonna see better pitching in atlanta but confidence is a big thing. hopefully wong is healthy enough to go. only downside is hes been out for a bit so his offense might not click right away. gonna be interesting far as starting lineup goes. doe carp get to start if wong is good to go with edamn moving to outfield. interesting decision but I thing wong has to be totally healthy cause if he gets his hamstring hurt again, he will be done for this year.
September 29, 2019 at 8:08 pm #109437We played the Cubs 7 games down the stretch, and won five of them. I can live with that.
It is going to be very tough to win a pennant, and even more so to win it all. This season there are many teams with better win/loss records than us. For us to have a chance we will need three starters to be at the top of their game, plus several relievers. And we are going to have get guys in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, something we are not that good at.
