Another reminder that initial physical appearance does not matter. Players who were singled out as possibly overweight as camp opened this spring – Munoz (hottest hitter this camp) and Ozuna (hottest hitter in the last week). Most noticeably slimmest – Gyorko (.171 BA).

ParticipantGood pickup BW….. I’m going off my stupid diet plan. Already contacted my nutrisionalist.(sp)
March 24, 2018 at 12:56 pm #46254I forgot the usual caveat, YMMV (your mileage may vary). 😉
March 24, 2018 at 1:05 pm #46260Guys like Bartolo Colon and CC Sabathia also seem to approve of the Babe Ruth diet of beer and hot dogs but they still get the job done.
As long as Munoz and Ozuna produce on the field is all that matters to me.
March 24, 2018 at 1:22 pm #46265Edit: Colon was released today by the Rangers.
March 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm #46267I really like the Santa Clarita Diet approach. You guys might wanna give it a shot.
March 24, 2018 at 2:01 pm #46268Ozuna looks about 15lbs thinner than the beginning of spring.
March 25, 2018 at 7:07 am #46307Not what I had hoped, but also not surprising.
When I asked Mike Maddux if he and Mike Matheny would rock, scissors, paper if they had a disagreement on a pitching move, Maddux had a snappy comeback:
“Put it this way,” he said. “Pretty much I always go paper, and he always goes scissors.”#cardinals https://t.co/Cu8lomsBnK

March 25, 2018 at 9:33 am #46314Great response by Maddux! Seriously though, you hope his thoughts are given a lot of consideration.

ParticipantMy wife and I played that game when we were younger. I was always scissors and she was always paper. After 40 years I still go with scissors but now she’s rock. Wink, wink…. you younger guys will learn that that’s the solution for marital bliss. 🙁

ParticipantIt seems Pham is dealing with some vision issues. He has new contacts and is trying positioning his body differently to see the ball better. When asked if his vision may an issue this year he said “we’ll see”. I feel bad for him this a tough challenge for him.
March 25, 2018 at 5:29 pm #46379March 25, 2018 at 7:29 pm #46380Martinez is probably glad. Tovar misses out on a chance to further showcase himself. Looks like he has pulled ahead of Mejia in the “defense first” shortstop race if the Cards decide to ever go that way.
March 25, 2018 at 9:30 pm #46381*sigh*
Matheny’s gonna screw this up. So much for hoping Maddox had more say in pitching changes.
March 27, 2018 at 7:42 pm #46565Sometimes, the little details DO matter…
Meet Max Schrock. He wasn't sure he'd get another chance to make an impression this spring. And then he told #stlcards that, yes, he did have a passport: https://t.co/3IYPz6sA0Q #Cardinals #MLB
