Not to worry about the schedule. Whatever it is will be screwed up and blamed on the computer. My 8 year old grandson could make up that schedule with his eyes closed. Leave it to MLB to foul it up.
June 24, 2020 at 1:22 pm #131375Why so negative? How badly could it be screwed up when we pretty much know the format? Heard a rumor there are no five-game sets planned, so likely three- or four-game series. My guess is that other than KC, the AL Central matchups will be either one home or away series per team, but not both locations.
June 24, 2020 at 2:31 pm #131377It hasn’t been talked about much lately but is the three batter rule still going to be implemented this season?
June 24, 2020 at 3:56 pm #131378My understanding is that yes, the three-batter rule will be used.

I read it will be enforced.
I also read the restrictions on pitching by position players will not be enforced. Other things I saw were no hands touching face for signs/signals, no spitting tobacco or seeds, pitchers can keep a wet rag instead of licking their fingers, no throwing the ball around the horn, and no bat boys/girls.
June 24, 2020 at 4:45 pm #131380probably some tough games ahead versus Twins and Cleveland.
Chisox too maybeJune 24, 2020 at 7:08 pm #131394no hands touching face for signs/signals, no spitting tobacco or seeds, pitchers can keep a wet rag instead of licking their fingers, no throwing the ball around the horn, and no bat boys/girls
They are going to have to reprogram a lot of robots to get compliance with all of that. Sounds like the ball will be thrown out after every use which is not new but no throwing around the horn makes little sense because it may be handled by several players before a play is over. No bat boys/girls means MLBPA will be demanding extra wages for having players doing demeaning duties.
June 24, 2020 at 7:41 pm #131395I guess a keg of beer behind second would be unsanitary
June 24, 2020 at 8:11 pm #131399Hmmm, maybe not bling, it might be a great idea. Alcohol kills the virus, right?

Similar thing in tennis. Watching the players retrieve their own tennis balls and sweaty towels is a bit strange. Each ball is marked so it can be handled only by the player for whom it is marked.

June 26, 2020 at 1:03 pm #131547Thanks Brian for your “predicting the 60” article.
Only surprise for me was Fletcher.June 26, 2020 at 2:41 pm #131563The glaring weakness is no real DH. I guess Miller and Ravelo will split that duty. Justin Williams could be in a good spot if he performs well in Springfield because he is a LH bat. I’ll be glad when Sosa starts getting opportunities. That should come soon.
June 26, 2020 at 3:38 pm #131564The glaring weakness is no real DH.
Bring Carlson up for left field rotation with ONeil and let Carp fill the DH with Edmon at 3B/
June 26, 2020 at 4:36 pm #131566I wonder if TV coverage will look different. Besides attempting to avoid showing empty seats, there would be things like little point to showing where a foul pop comes down in empty seats, etc. If some fans are allowed, I wonder if an attempt will be made to position them with camera angles in mind. It would make sence to make it visually as close to normal as possible. Maybe add crowd noise.
June 26, 2020 at 8:08 pm #131571Matt Carpenter is the definition of a real DH.
June 26, 2020 at 9:43 pm #131598I can’t get excited about a hitter coming off of a .229 BA which is what Carpenter hit last year. I know about his OBP and walks, etc. So what? He hit .229.
June 27, 2020 at 12:44 pm #131636This season is too short to be able to withstand slow starts by Fowler and Carpenter!

June 27, 2020 at 11:28 pm #131687I would love to see Carlson but I’m betting pitching is being heavily leaned on early on.

Yep, I wouldn’t expect to see Carlson before August 1. I know the Cardinals don’t have a history of manipulating service time but in this case I sure wouldn’t blame them if they did.
June 28, 2020 at 2:21 pm #131718The other day, Mo was asked about it again and his answer to us was the same as it has been all along. O’Neill and Thomas deserve a chance. He also acknowledged that time is shorter this year. (But there is no way the two ahead of Carlson will have enough time to fail before the Cards can save the year of team control.)
My conclusion remains that without injuries to the others in Camp 2.0, Carlson will probably not open with StL. After the few days for service time pass, then the question will be whether he will get more work in Springfield than with St. Louis. When will a clear starting job become available?
P.S. Note that while August 1 may sound like a long time to wait, it is only eight days into the season.
June 28, 2020 at 3:14 pm #131727Nice to see the games starting up, but it’s only nice, no big deal.
July 22, 2020 at 4:54 pm #133329Sources: MLB and union are re-engaging on the possibility of expanded playoffs for this season. Has to be done before first pitch 25 hours from now, but there seems to be optimism. Hope was to go from 10 playoff teams to 16.

July 23, 2020 at 11:20 am #133409As part of the 16-team expanded playoff proposal, the No. 1, 2, 3 seeds in each league— the Division winners— would pick their opponents among the other 5 teams, with a selection show.
