Enjoyed this again this week. I like Blake’s enthusiasm, knowledge, and self-confidence. Brian keeps the show moving along with balance. Thanks to both.
March 13, 2024 at 7:24 pm #243949Thank you for watching and commenting. We added O’Brien for you…
March 13, 2024 at 8:10 pm #243956It was the kind of honest assessment and reporting that everyone appreciates. Thanks, again.
March 14, 2024 at 2:32 pm #244025I don’t know if WWW is taking questions, but if it is, I’d be interested in an update on Hence.
Hence’s future has been questioned because some think he’s not big enough to be a top of rotation guy. In 2023, Baseball Reference listed Hence at 6’1, 185 lbs, but this year they have him listed at 6’1, 195 lbs.
Sounds like he’s filling out. BTW, and FWIW, Pedro Martinez is listed at 5’11, 170 lbs.March 20, 2024 at 8:09 am #244537.@bt_newberry & I review how the #STLCards system stacks up against MLB, Marmol’s contract, standouts in Spring Breakout Games, including Hence & Baez (p), and Tuesday standouts Scott, O’Brien & Leahy, roster cuts coming and impact of Middleton’s injury to pen candidates. jj-cf-stlParticipantBW, you and Blake need a morning show. Lets ramp this up to daily!
Good stuff.March 20, 2024 at 10:20 am #244539
stlcard25ParticipantI was thinking the same thing, jj.
“Weekdays with Walton and Blake”
“Weekends with Walton and Blake”
“Shake n Bake with Walton and Blake”There are lots of options.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI bet you could rattle those off all day long!
I remember those Game Recaps you wrote for our tournament. Real good stuff.
March 27, 2024 at 6:50 am #245104A lot to cover in our Wednesday podcast. @bt_newberry and I review how the #stlcards finished spring training by the numbers, highlight three prospects recently cut from camp and recap the six-man Opening Day injured list. Next is the outfield, with Victor Scott and Michael… pic.twitter.com/HeeRdRTb9J

March 27, 2024 at 5:11 pm #245147Matt Svanson 6’5, 235lbs. Acquired from the Blue Jays for Pauly and cash. Community’s #35 ranked prospect.
Possibly the best relief prospect in the system?! That’s interesting.
These WWW&B are fun.
March 27, 2024 at 9:10 pm #245159Thank you!
April 3, 2024 at 7:05 am #246300TCN's Wednesday #STLCards podcast: We focus on the AAA Memphis roster – key additions, the trial of Thomas Saggese at SS, the hot bat of Jose Fermin, the power of Luken Baker and speed of Mike Antico. The rotation and late-inning relievers are discussed. https://t.co/ZdNDqTbRQg pic.twitter.com/TkBuymxvb5

stlcard25ParticipantAlways interesting to hear Brian and Blake banter about our baby Birds.
Of particular note this week was the comment about Antico’s defense not being up to the expected norm given his speed. I had sort of placed Antico in the Siani bucket as an emergency CFer/5th OFer if we needed him in a pinch. Sounds like maybe he’s not quite there, and will need to further develop the bat to make the bigs.
Also agree with the comments on the pitchers in Memphis. We need more from those guys at the big league level next year if not this…they’re gonna have to step up with Hence and Roby right there to move into AAA if they pitch well.

ParticipantThanks very much for these weekly podcasts, Brian. As a former college and semi-pro pitcher, I’m especially impressed by Blake’s knowledge of pitching. The details of individual pitches – depth of curves, movement of two and four seam fastballs, sweepers, sliders, and changeups, etc. is great. I wonder where he gained this knowledge. Again, thanks for providing these podcasts.
April 10, 2024 at 6:47 am #247420In our Wednesday podcast, @bt_newberry and I discuss key #STLCards prospect additions at AA @Sgf_Cardinals, A+ @peoriachiefs and A @GoPBCardinals, emerging players to watch and early season promotion candidates. April 12, 2024 at 10:06 pm #247745If you have an hour to spend…
We're not saying the #stlcards broke out because @C70 and @B_Walton were podcasting but hey, who knows! Brian drops the knowledge on some of the minor league players and some of those that used to be minor leaguers in a great conversation! /@FansFirstSN https://t.co/DRXjRytDCA

April 17, 2024 at 6:58 am #248433In TCN's Wednesday pod, we look at a prospect promotion and a league Pitcher of the Week in the #STLCards system. Early stats leaders: hitters R.J. Yeager, Bryan Torres, Anyelo Encarnacion & Cesar Prieto. Pitchers covered: Alec Willis, Quinn Mathews, Tink Hence & Jose Davila.… pic.twitter.com/2KHwb7SDcm

April 17, 2024 at 8:53 am #248436You couldn’t have selected a better Pod sidekick than Mr. Newberry, Brian. Definitely want Tink over Rom for the 5th slot in the Memphis rotation. I think Tink is ready. And Anyelo Encarnacion out of the Dominican is a name we all will be familiar with very soon. Keep em coming, Brian!
April 17, 2024 at 8:56 am #248437
cardsfan64ParticipantSo glad you are doing these again, Brian! Blake has a ton of knowledge and really adds to the show as well. I wouldn’t mind if you expanded the show to be a bit linger each week, if there is content to talk about.
April 18, 2024 at 12:28 pm #248590There is always plenty to discuss, but I made the decision to limit the episodes to 15-20 minutes. I never listen to one-hour podcasts because I find that at least 3/4 of them is filler. I guess if it was as background noise while doing other tasks, that might be ok… but I’d rather give people a reason to come to the site and subscribe to learn more.
April 18, 2024 at 1:20 pm #248600I agree with the 15-20 minute format. That’s easy to listen to in a single chunk. If it was an hour, I’d probably be more miss than hit on listening.

Considering Hence didn’t dominate in AA last year, deciding he’s ready for AAA after 10 good innings this year seems precipitous. He goes again tonight so lets hope he keeps it up.
