When healthy, Rom can be pretty good. Maybe, both he and Tink will end up in the Memphis rotation.

Rom gets a lot of swing and miss, but at the same time is very hittable. And there are only so many rotation slots. It will be interesting to see what develops when he returns.
April 24, 2024 at 7:07 am #249326It's Wednesday! @bt_newberry and I discuss league Pitchers and Players of the Week in the #stlcards system and strong work by Palm Beach's rotation. Players profiled: Sem Robberse, Nathan Church, Quinn Mathews, Jason Savacool and Chen-Wei Lin (p). We close with an early look at… pic.twitter.com/yd9eEzBRzD

April 24, 2024 at 10:47 am #249345Right now, Burleson’s .255 BA looks rather robust for the Cardinals. lol Burly needs to find a way to hit some home runs.
April 24, 2024 at 10:50 am #249346What does that have to do with this podcast? You clearly did not listen to it. And why does Burly appear in every post?
April 24, 2024 at 10:55 am #249347Sorry, maybe I didn’t understand. I thought this podcast discussion was about Cardinals baseball talk in general. I’ll try to stick more to the topic in the future. It is nice to see what Robberse is dong. He may get his chance to help the Cardinals rotation sooner than later.

cardsfan64ParticipantI would like to take this opportunity to thank the anonymous member who made it possible for me to have a one year membership to The Cardinal Nation when I purchased the spiral bound copy of the 2024 Prospect Guide. I always listen to Wednesday’s with Walton and Newberry, and the offer was toward the end of the podcast this morning. You made my day (and year!)! Thank you for making this possible with your generous donation! No good deed goes unrewarded!
April 24, 2024 at 2:51 pm #249414Our subscribers are the best! Without you, we couldn’t do any of this…
April 24, 2024 at 8:38 pm #249452As a heads up, both of the offers mentioned during the podcast have been claimed.

stlcard25ParticipantInteresting that Chen-Wei Lin is throwing some heat this spring. Would really impact his prospect status if he was regularly throwing 94-95 even rather than 90ish.

ParticipantReally good explanation on why Mathews has put up the numbers he has so far this season.
April 26, 2024 at 4:58 pm #249596Per TCN’s Memphis Redbird Notebook, Robberse is International League Pitcher of the Week. He has been posting some impressive stats since the beginning of this season. No bad pitching performances. He will be 23 years old in October.
There really isn’t a thread for commenting on top performers in general. I’m thinking that this thread could be used for that purpose.
April 26, 2024 at 6:20 pm #249604Relax mud, AAA is where Cardinals starter prospects go to stall. He will get the memo.
April 26, 2024 at 10:23 pm #249707Hold the memo for now. Robbberse had another very good outing this evening.

Shady’s “Burleson” thread certainly qualified, Mud, but it’s gone….got up and mysteriously vanished like a hiccup in the wind. Yes, I can’t wait to get situated at work so I can catch Brian’s & Newberry’s podcast. Ladisernia is whom I especially want to get the latest news on. Back in the day, Wednesdays used to mean Poker Night in Chandler, Arizona over at Teddy’s domicile. But now when I think “Wednesday”, Brian’s podcast is what first comes to mind. Keep em coming, Brian!
May 1, 2024 at 9:56 am #250284Brian – You and Blake talked about several Memphis relievers that could be called up if the need arises, but neither of you mentioned perhaps the best reliever right now (at least by the numbers) – Ryan Loutos. Any reason he was omitted? I know his numbers were rather poor last year, but he was pretty well thought of prior to that.
May 1, 2024 at 10:23 am #250286Jnevel, I think if you talk like you’re taking a Division 3 guy seriously the kool kids won’t let you sit at their table anymore.
May 1, 2024 at 10:52 am #250287Loutos is not on the 40 man, and while this year’s numbers look good, it is only 8.2 innings.
May 1, 2024 at 10:57 am #250289They were talking in the podcast about who could be added to the 40-man. But yes, I agree it’s only 9 innings. Still, he has the best results thus far and wasn’t mentioned.
May 1, 2024 at 11:57 am #250300Fair point about Loutos. I will make a note to discuss him next time. (Obviously, it was taped before the decision to re-add Leahy to the 40-man, who by their actions, the Cards seem to like better than Loutos. Confirming Leahy was sent back down Tuesday night.)
May 8, 2024 at 6:57 am #251271Wednesday With Walton and Newberry: We discuss top pitchers and hitters during April in the #stlcards minor league system.
Pitchers profiled: consensus Pitcher of the Month Quinn Mathews, Juan Salas, Nick Raquet, Joseph King and new St. Louis reliever Chris Roycroft.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAnother fine episode, thanks guys.
May 8, 2024 at 9:52 am #251282
jj-cf-stlParticipantI really like Blake’s willingness to view each players future potential, at this time in their career, and their best fit role going forward. Tough task.
He doesn’t pull punches and give an overly optimistic opinion. If he sees AAA depth skills, you hear it. If he views a guy as a mlb regular, you hear that too.
Blake, your straight forward opinions and analysis are appreciated. Hat-tip.
May 8, 2024 at 11:44 am #251291Thanks for listening!
