Oli has a 93 win season in his pocket, and a NLC title. I guess he got 43 games worse over the winter.
Mo doesn’t seem to think the 43 game tilt is Marmol’s doing. It follows that if the bad 2023 was not his doing, then the good 2022 wouldn’t have been either. I don’t think the current model looks at the manager’s effectiveness in terms of whether games end with a W or an L. Consider that it may not be Ollie’s job to tip the balance with his personal observation, instinct, knowledge and judgement. It seems that the field manager’s job is to execute a defined role in the model, and he is judged on how well he does that. I believe Shildt did not stay in that lane and Marmol is not making the same mistake.
Perhaps Marmol should be judged like a young player who just made it to the majors, he is after all the youngest manager in the MLB. He had a good first year then went into a sophomore slump. For the player we say he’s young, he doesn’t have enough experience, give him time, he’s still learning. He’s only had a little over 300 appearances. So we need to give him a few more years to learn his trade. Not!
We need to go out and hire somebody else’s failed manager
It seems I read somewhere he only hit an average of .200 as a minor league player then they hired him as a hitting coach. The guy’s got a pretty powerful rabbi lurking somewhere.
Ollie understands his role within the organization and doesn’t rock the boat. He had a front row seat to what happens when you challenge the boss. Bling is correct in his assessment of this situation.
So Ollie understands that winning games is not among the requirements for fulfilling the roll the organization has set out for him. At least as long as three million people continue to pay to watch us lose, I suppose.
