Mike Antico, in 5 months last season, had 31 doubles, 14 home runs, and 67 stolen bases. He split his time between Peoria and Springfield. If he doesn’t start the season at Memphis, he should be there shortly after the 2023 season starts. Seems to me he’s a better prospect then either Hurst or Pinder. He was drafted in 2021.
Brian, Yep, I think Burlson and Yeprs will go North. As far as Gomez is concerned I thinking that STl will be looking more for defensive help in the OF should an injury occurs. And then there is Walker who will hopefully play more games for the Cards than the Redbirds. He is on the 40 which may not be the best place to be if the spot is needed. Remember…. just pencil.
Moving Winn into the already crowded OF seems silly but I’ll bet he spends time out there as well as SS.
Now Baez…. It looks like Peoria will have a logjam in the OF with returnees and the influx from PB. Baez would be the best of that group so maybe he could jump Peoria and start in AA as a 19 y.o. I believe he has a high ceiling and a fast track would be a challenge. Of course… we’ll see. Ithought there would be more critiques but your’s is the soundest. Thanks for the kick back. ST will give us a more accurate guesses pre-opening day. I know that you like playing the final placement game.
Bccran – I agree that Antico will move up to Memphis about early to mid season. This is my guess of where players will start the season. I didn’t list Luis Pino for Palm Beach but he should move up by mid season and Fletcher will probably be shown the door. Pinder and Hurst are bench riders and Antico probably wouldn’t start at Memphis now that Mercado is there. He can play everyday at Springfield tell its time to move him up.

Brian doesn’t reside in St. Louis, but I’d be happy to go down there and take pictures – if someone could tell me when the trucks are going to pull out. Normally I believe it’s 2 big semis.
I don’t look at the ratings when I make a comment about a guy like Antico, Brian. I just study his stats in college and at every minor league level. Also read published scouting reports.
I think Brian has said the trucks with the gear pull out tomorrow. Somehow that seems like a milestone.

It could be suggested and even argued vehemently that there has been nothing worth talking about since the off-season started…considering they never intended to do anything but replace Pujols’ numbers.
Nathan, I agree, all that happened was replacing Pujols’s bat with a slugging catcher. I don’t think they were too interested in anything else, and got even less interested as time went on. I do think some kind of substantial trade could well happen this season, once they get a better look at what they have and don’t have with the youngsters.

… and those numbers collectively have the team finishing 81-81… That seems a lowball projection.”Yeah, that’s obviously far too pessimistic on the overall team record. They’ve won 90+ games in each of the past three full seasons, and return the vast majority of last year’s talent. (Departure of Pujols+ Molina is balanced by the arrival of Contreras, of course.) Moreover, they’ve finished at least 10 games over .500 in 13 of Mozeliak’s 14 seasons as GM, or whatever they’re calling his job now. Poobah, I think? So they ain’t going 81-81. Or at least, as Damon Runyon would say, that’s the way to bet.
As for the rotation specifically, the ZiPS forecasting model is decidedly less scary for Cardinal fans than whatever prediction system or expert panel ESPN is using. But first, a bit of background is in order.
According to ZiPS, in terms of total talent — position players plus pitchers — there are 8 MLB teams distinctly stronger than the rest right now. Those 8 teams are the Cards, Braves, Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Astros, Blue Jays, and Padres. (The Phillies and Brewers are 3 and 4 games behind the aforementioned octet, respectively.) If replacement level is 48 wins, the Braves are projected at 103 victories, the Dodgers, Cards, and Yankees at 97, the Mets and Stros at 96, the Friars 95, and Toronto at 94.
Among the Great Eight, the 7 non-Redbird starting rotations are projected to average 14.9 WAR per the ZiPS model. The Redbird rotation is projected at 13.8, so not quite even with their peers but quite close.
The strength of the starting 9 and projected rotation is all well and good on paper, but that isn’t the squad that will determine how a team’s season goes. Teams will experience injuries, some will be decimated. So you have to factor in what is behind those guys or it is pretty meaningless. The Cardinals are usually in pretty good shape in that area.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d have to guess that with the tremendous increase in play between the two leagues this season, things are about to get a lot more difficult to project. Don’t ask me exactly what I base this on, because I really don’t know…Haha!
