Earlier today, the Yankees claimed OF Michael Siani off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

According to reports, The #Cubs have signed OF Dylan Carlson, a former top prosect, to a minor league deal.
He was spotted in Mesa, AZ working out with the team this past weekend.

IMO, some teams abuse the waiver process, taking guys then turning around and trying to get them through waivers so they can stash them in the minors.
I think the union should consider pushing for a minimum time on the roster so there is not so much churn.
To me it is ridiculous that Siani has been in five orgs in three months.

The flip side for Siani, is being told to go away and never come back. Locking in fringe players for a longer period, locks out other fringe players. The 40man could enlarge to a 45man, but the fringe players will still be there.

The Pirates are not planning to finish last this year.
They are actually trying to help their young pitching staff out with some offensive weapons.
It may or may not work – next year it may be the Cardinals picking up a decent veteran or two to bolster their offense.
After this year I would like to think final decisions will be made on Nootbar, Walker, Scott, and Gorman plus Pallante and Thompson.

In each case I would think a ‘final decision’ will be made whenever somebody better emerges from the system. Bill is not going to be buying guys.
