Good to see Pozo back, although we are deep in catching. Crooks did not exactly light up the scoreboard in his brief trial this year, so we will likely be giving him more time on the farm unless he looks unstoppable this coming Spring. And who knows, maybe a deal where we send Arenado or Contreras packing and have to include Pages will be consummated before Spring.
Brian – or anyone else who might know – I’m curious about the Pozo signing. When a guy who is on the 40-man roster is in the majors, he gets paid at least the MLB minimum. But if he gets optioned out, doesn’t he take a serious cut in pay? Pozo still had options left so I don’t understand how this agreement helped the Cardinals. Why release him at all and sign a new agreement that seems to essentially do the same thing as keeping him? I’m sure there is something I’m missing which is why I’m asking.

I guess the difference for someone like Jordan Walker is that he would get the full MLB minimim if he is sent to Memphis.
From what I can find, a minor league player in his 2nd (or more) season on the 40-man roster must be paid a minimum of $127,100 annually. Had the Cardinals just optioned Pozo, I believe this would have been his salary at Memphis in 2026 unless he was called back up. Can the team negotiate for less than the minimum and that’s what they did when they released him and re-signed him? And the reason he would sign again is he risked making even less elsewhere on a minor league deal?
This just seems like a weird move over a trivial amount of money for the team. Maybe they save $40k annually? I guess that might pay for an instructor.

I liked having Pozo around and hope to see him back when all the juggling is done. He seemed like a joyous player, from the little one can conclude just watching TV.

Orioles seem to like former Cardinals. O’Neill, Carlson and now Helsley. The first two disappointed, with Carlson already gone. Maybe O’Neill comes back and Helsley saves 40 games next year – we will see.
Sort of a former Cardinal – his contract was voided after it was announced that he signed last January. I don’t know the reason he and Yordy Valdez never made it to the team. But now, Yostin is a Yankee!
12/01/25 – New York Yankees signed free agent OF Yostin Pena to a minor league contract.
Orioles POBO Mike Elias is a former Cardinals head of amateur scouting who went to Houston with Luhnow.
Pena failed his background check with the Cardinals and his deal was voided. My guess is the Yankees paid less for him.

I suggested Jhostynxon in one of my trade targets earlier this week and just copy and pasted. I guess he was available, unfortunately to a division rival….
UPDATE: The Chicago Cubs are HOPEFUL of finalizing an agreement with free-agent starter Zac Gallen on a multi-year deal, but the deal is NOT DONE with others still in contention. Gallen, with three top-10 Cy Young finishes, has averaged 32 starts a year for the past 4 seasons.

Interesting local spin. Jordan was left unprotected in the Rule 5 draft and could be gone tomorrow. And even if he stays, he is hardly assured of an MLB career. How is that an easy win, except that DeWitt saved $4 million in salary?
