The Mets would have quite the glut of extra players with Lindor and Bryant on the left side. They also have Alonso and Smith who should be at 1B, Davis who can play 3B or LF, Nimmo, Conforto, and McNeil in the OF. Something would seem to have to give.
January 8, 2021 at 6:39 pm #151371The Cubs have put themselves in a tough spot. I fully expect Bryant to test Free Agency. The Cubs want top prospects for him. I am not sure there are many clubs that will be willing to part with a top prospect in return for one year of Bryant.
January 8, 2021 at 6:41 pm #151372“can play all 3 OF positions”
laughable“at a fairly reasonable rate (~18-19M)”
So now the equivalent to the Q-offer is a reasonable rate? Looks like Heyman is earning a paycheck.January 8, 2021 at 7:01 pm #151374I guess some people can’t see through him, but based on social media reaction, Casino Jon is not well liked.

January 14, 2021 at 12:59 pm #151728Theo wasn’t gone long…
Maybe he can start by fixing those “unfair” competitive balance draft picks! 😉

January 14, 2021 at 1:29 pm #151732Manfred had better be careful. He may be hiring his replacement.
January 14, 2021 at 3:02 pm #151740How blasphemous! Hiring a baseball man to run baseball could be disastrous!
January 15, 2021 at 3:15 pm #151848“The executives, like me, who have spent a lot of time using analytics and other measures to try to optimize individual and team performance have unwittingly had a negative impact on the aesthetic value of the game and the entertainment value of the game in some respects,” Epstein said when he resigned. Copy and paste from ABC Sports article.
Maybe a light in the darkness. I can only hope.
January 15, 2021 at 3:18 pm #151849He is right, but he can say that now that he wears a different hat. Last month at this time, you can bet your bottom dollar he would have done anything and everything in his power to gain an edge, no matter how slight.
I hope he can make progress, too, but he is one voice against the 30 who actually hold the power… Telling competitors to compete less is going to be a tough sell…
January 15, 2021 at 3:43 pm #151854Agreed, but the fact that they hired a guy who had just said that is reason to hope.
January 15, 2021 at 4:10 pm #151858I wonder if he thinks the price of a beer and dog has negatively impacted the fan experience.
January 15, 2021 at 4:33 pm #151867Good one!
January 17, 2021 at 9:50 pm #152036Shelby Miller has agreed to a non-roster deal with the Cubs, per source. If he makes the club, he'll earn $875,000 with $600,000 in performance bonuses. Deal is pending physical.

January 18, 2021 at 9:26 pm #152074Some angry folks in Chi-town…
Jon Lester made it clear that he wanted to return to Wrigley Field, and now he’s signing with the Nationals. The Cubs can give explanations for any move – Theo, Darvish, Schwarber, layoffs, free agency, more trade rumors – but all the subtraction adds up. https://t.co/gjpM1VOOyZ

January 18, 2021 at 9:57 pm #152075And more frustration… aimed directly at Ricketts.
Via @GDubCub: The Cubs spent 108 years becoming a punchline until finally winning that 2016 championship. It's taken them four years to become a joke again.https://t.co/rjoi7msAp7

January 19, 2021 at 5:18 am #152087Sources confirm Jon Lester’s contract with Nationals is $5 million for 2021. Mutual option for 2022. @Ken_Rosenthal @jon_greenberg first to report agreement.Cubs made offer but not close to the Nats offer.

January 19, 2021 at 6:54 am #152088Sure makes it look like Ricketts is in charge, with Jed having limited control.
Absolute embarrassment. Lester went to the Cubs early in the winter with an offer lower than the Nats and Hoyer wasn't authorized to sign off.

January 19, 2021 at 7:30 am #152091Lesters 10mil buyout must have left a lasting impression.
January 19, 2021 at 7:34 am #152092If Lester got $5M, what will Waino be commanding? Seems like teams are willing to bet bigger on younger talent, but you can’t imagine that Waino will get much more than Lester got.
January 19, 2021 at 7:44 am #152093Their 2020 values by Fangraphs were Lester at 2.2mil and Wainwright 8.3mil
January 19, 2021 at 8:41 am #1520963 year WAR: Waino 3.6, Lester 5.1
Waino is two years older and a righty. He did have a better (short) 2020. All things considered, they are pretty similar, value wise.
Lester is only being paid $2M this year with a $3M bonus being paid in 2023.
January 19, 2021 at 8:44 am #152098The exodus continues.

January 19, 2021 at 8:48 am #15209925, I wouldn’t look back more than one season on these two ol’ farts, but you’re entirely welcome to.
I don’t know where or how much Adam will sign for but I’d place his value at double of Lesters.
January 19, 2021 at 8:52 am #152100The Nationals are becoming Chicago East.
Martinez
Castro
Schwarber
LesterWill Bryant be next? The Nats love those Boras players.
