The nice thing to watch is his plate discipline. Some of the other younger guys should learn from him.
He simply doesn’t seem to swing at bad pitches, and hits the ball where it’s pitched. Doesn’t try to jack the ball every swing with all the power he can muster.
He’s trying to make adjustments to major league pitching. Only had 3 singles, but the good thing is that he’s only struck out 1 time in 22 plate appearances. That’s refreshing.
I think y try hey will use Donovan and Yepez in the outfield to start the year. This way Gorman, Yepez, and Donovan in the same lineup. Or I could be wrong, if Burleson has a hot spring.
You have to have 13 position players. So 9 including the DH (Yepez), one extra outfielder, one extra catcher (Knizner) and two extra infielders (DeJong & Gorman). So, who is that 4th outfielder?
Agreed. As of today, that group of 13 seems to have a clear advantage. Of course, there could be changes between now and spring training and maybe some injuries then.
Because those 13 position players (excluding Contreras) were the ones on the StL roster at the end of last season, they remain that way on the Roster Matrix. The potential rub is 16 pitchers for 13 spots. It is really 17 when including Hudson, who was optioned out at the end of 2022.
