Well I hate the ideal of expanded playoffs and the dh. Too many terrible teams already make the playoffs in all sports.
February 1, 2021 at 8:44 pm #153113The Major League Baseball Players Association today released the following statement on Players’ commitment to begin the 2021 season on time: pic.twitter.com/WCYtaeVqmH

February 1, 2021 at 10:23 pm #153136With no choice but to honor the CBA, MLB caves in.

February 1, 2021 at 10:25 pm #153137Casino Jon getting ripped again all over the web, and rightfully so, for this awful take…
why do they have to do anything but what was already scheduled and agreed to in the CBA? https://t.co/EM9JbI3afo

February 2, 2021 at 8:19 am #153184So does yesterday’s announcement mean there definitely will not be a universal DH, expanded playoffs, etc this season?
February 2, 2021 at 9:25 am #153201I don’t know about definitely but unless there is some last second agreement there won’t be.
Carp is looking to be a $18.5M bench bat.
February 2, 2021 at 10:07 am #153206Carp must be playing 2B this year if there is no DH. After all, the more you get paid, the more you play. I hear that a lot on here.
February 2, 2021 at 12:34 pm #153233I still believe the DH will happen, just as it did last year, when the decision was also very late. Negotiations are not over.
February 3, 2021 at 9:26 am #153296I assumed all winter that the DH would be back but I am not so sure now. The players don’t seem to want to negotiate anything because they don’t have to and the owners keep trying to tie it to expanded playoffs and that isn’t happening.
February 8, 2021 at 2:11 pm #153788Apparently, there will be changes to the baseball this year to likely benefit pitching.
MLB making changes to the baseball, deadening it – but by how much? With @EnoSarris: https://t.co/z1tV98R40V

February 8, 2021 at 5:06 pm #153801Hearing that MLB and the MLBPA could have the health and safety protocols finalized as early as tonight and expect it to include seven-inning double headers and the runner on second in extra innings, DH not expected to be included.

February 8, 2021 at 5:08 pm #153803The 7 inning doubleheaders just make too much sense. They are a lot of fun. The extra inning rules are sort of silly, but they do get the games over faster. I’d rather they just end the game in a tie after 12 innings.
February 8, 2021 at 8:31 pm #153829I like the 7 inning DH’s. They make sense.
The runner on second is a bit of a gimmick but I would not be in favor of seeing a game end in a tie.
February 8, 2021 at 8:38 pm #153831By the way, while I can understand why the players were hesitant about opening up the CBA right now but ultimately I think turning down the offer of delaying the season a month while playing 154 games for full pay could be a mistake.
If there are more covid outbreaks it is going to be very easy to blame the players because there could have been at least 30 more days of inoculations before the season started.
February 10, 2021 at 8:26 pm #153964February 10, 2021 at 8:33 pm #153965I read they have already used these tracers in the NFL and NBA.
(Thanks for moving this, GC.)
February 14, 2021 at 1:30 pm #154276But there will be some form of DH when interleague games are played, right? I hope not, but nothing is decided until the fat lady sings in early April.
February 14, 2021 at 1:51 pm #154278Yes there will be DH during interleague games.
As of now it appears that NL games will not have the DH but I suppose there is still a slight chance it gets implemented before April 1. The MLBPA doesn’t seem interested in using the DH as a bargaining chip so the owners would basically have to give it away for “nothing”, although the health of the pitchers should be considered something.
The only thing that gives me hope of having the DH this year is that maybe the owners are just waiting on all of the free agent hitters to be signed before implementing it. That would limit the number of teams bidding on some of those players thus potentially driving their price down.
On the other hand I am sure some, if not most, of the owners have no appetite to give the players anything they don’t have to.
February 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm #154281Watching our pitching staff trying to hit would be brutal but so would watching Carp try to hit 4 or 5 times a game. I think the Cards would benefit from no DH since we don’t have one but we have plenty of pitchers.
If they are going to place a runner on second they should set a keg of beer out there too. They would have to bring it in in a Brinks truck, at $12 a cup I can only imagine what a keg is worth.

March 1, 2021 at 11:52 am #155049No newsflash but the upcoming CBA negotiations will be choppy.
Sunday notes. https://t.co/obYuq6ubPy What everybody sees now that Kevin Mather focused klieg lights on baseball's non-competitive behavior and some of the ugly market realities it has created for the players.
