jj-cf-stlParticipantPeete just keeps making noise, good job.
Church just keeps coming at you like Donny does, contributing something regularly. If a lefty high in the lineup fits well, Church over JJ, while Nathan is getting results.
March 19, 2026 at 8:16 am #302928Would it make sense to let JJ resume playing 3B in Memphis so they can see if Gorman will stick, and also save the year of control?
March 19, 2026 at 9:34 am #302929
jj-cf-stlParticipantConsidering the current financials, JJ could give a shot in the arm to attendance. Maybe that’s on the table.
March 19, 2026 at 9:37 am #302930I think JJ will be the starting 2B in STL opening day and all season. The “season of control” issue is overblown for a player like him. He can earn a full year of service time anyway if he finishes top two in ROY regardless of when he is called up. The team should be hoping he puts up big numbers this year just like they should be hoping their young relievers put up big save and hold numbers. I don’t understand the defeatist mentality of being afraid that your players perform well because you might have to pay them more money later. Either pay the guys or sell the team.
As for 3B we have Urias or Saggese to play there in case Gorman flatlines.

March 19, 2026 at 11:24 am #302933Well put GScottar. I concur with all that!
March 19, 2026 at 2:49 pm #302936Matthew’s spring performance has been pretty encouraging after injuries and performance issues last year

jj-cf-stlParticipant5 scoreless from 5 pen hopefuls.
March 19, 2026 at 3:28 pm #302938I read on the injury report that Nootbaars expected return is April 10th. I guess rehab will start then, and his return would be early May. So I guess a 60,day DL would not happen. So if Velazquez and Wetherholt are needed to be added to the roster, 2 moves will be needed.
March 19, 2026 at 3:31 pm #302939Mathews has looked better so far, but the walks are troublesome.
March 19, 2026 at 5:19 pm #302940Mathews has looked better so far, but the walks are troublesome.
Besides the walks, I think he has 3 HBP and at least 1 wild pitch. Hope he comes around.
March 19, 2026 at 7:08 pm #302941It was fun watching the Spring Breakout game today. Josh Baez and JJ Wetherholt looked great. Tanner Franklin also was impressive even if his final results were average. Fajardo was similarly impressive with average results. Doyle struggled with control quite a bit.
3 new guys I am really excited to watch this season in the minors: Tanner Franklin, Ryan Mitchell, and Jack Gurevitch. I may have to add Fajardo to that list too. Today was the first time I’ve seen him. Very impressive today.

Participantgscottar, while i think you have lots of ball knowledge, i think what you said about wetherholt is def straight on.
March 20, 2026 at 2:26 am #302968I find it interesting that JJ was in the breakout game. IDK if we have anymore examples of players who have been predicted to be on thr ML 26 man playing in this game. Will be interested to see how this plays out.
March 20, 2026 at 5:43 am #302969College to MLB is a lot of ground to cover in 138 minor league games.
March 20, 2026 at 8:12 am #302977I read some where a few years ago that high level college baseball (like the SEC) is between high A and AA ball.
Do we think that is more or less accurate?
March 20, 2026 at 9:47 am #302982That sounds about right. The SEC is the toughest conference in college baseball but the Big 12 and ACC aren’t too far behind. It isn’t unheard of for a college player to make it to the big leagues within one year of being drafted. I know Paul Skenes did and I believe our very own Michael Wacha did.
Wetherholt was drafted in 2024 so having him in MLB now is aggressive but not outlandish.
March 20, 2026 at 10:33 am #302983It will be a good test of the Bloom Crew’s ability to evaluate the readiness of a top prospect.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThanks for passing that along GS.
March 21, 2026 at 2:58 pm #303015Pushard and Roycroft are in. Graceffo optioned out. Soriano also makes it, but that was expected.
The only decision left now is whether or not Velasquez and Wetherholt are getting added to the 40-man and who gets subtracted if they are added. Also could see Nootbaar go to the 60-day but it sounds like his timeline could be a little under 60 days so not sure what they will do.
March 21, 2026 at 3:14 pm #303016Mathews is also up about 4 MPH on his fastball from last year

I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully he finds his command and his shoulder holds up.
