Three starters at the top of the lineup.

March 14, 2026 at 2:14 pm #302700If 40 man roster spots are needed, Fernandez wouldn’t be a tough DFA. After a good rookie year, he hasn’t been the same. But his Dfa might add the spot for Velazquez.
March 15, 2026 at 6:06 am #302714Upcoming games. I expect more roster cuts after today’s game.

March 15, 2026 at 12:49 pm #302724J. Wetherholt 2B
M. Winn SS
A. Burleson 1B
N. Gorman DH
N. Velazquez LF
J. Fermin 3B
N. Church RF
P. Pages C
V. Scott II CFToday’s lineup may be what we go with on opening day, other than Gorman starting at 3rd and Fermin being a bench player and maybe Herrera DHing.
March 15, 2026 at 2:41 pm #302729Cards 6, Nats 3. The solution for a win is to have Mikolas pitch for the opposition.

Probably not.
March 16, 2026 at 6:26 pm #302786It’s odd that there still is not much new on Nootbaars return. I guess he would go to the 60 day DL.

ParticipantYea the more i see, seems like weatherholt is going to be leadoff. The cardinal manager just doesnt have any brains. But yet he gets paid and extended no less. Perhaps wetherholt will overcome the stupidness but if not and he struggles, then its on the manager as well as the whole organization.
March 16, 2026 at 9:12 pm #302795I don’t get MLBTV on my cable setup so I haven’t been able to watch any ST practice games. Do we have any baseball players that look to be pretty good on the ’26 Cardinal edition?
March 16, 2026 at 11:02 pm #302799Winquest has a 5.68 era in 6 appearances for the Yankees this spring. He could add to our minor league starting depth if he is returned.
March 17, 2026 at 1:10 am #302803How is Hence doing as a reliever? He could be fantastic.

I am not watching either, but my take on it is that on the position player side it is hoped that Wetherholt will be good and Gorman will improve. On the pitching side it is hoped that Leahy can hold a rotation slot.

stlcard25ParticipantI’ve been a little encouraged by the spring training events. I’m starting to come around on the rotation a bit (although I’d still much rather have Leahy in the pen) and the bullpen could remain a decent strength. Wetherholt seems as advertised and a couple of other guys have taken advantage of the opportunity (Gorman may just be on a hot streak but Velazquez might be a find for the OF). I still think the offense will struggle to score time but I’m more in the 70 win range at the moment for the season total, up from around 65 before the start of Spring Training.
March 17, 2026 at 7:19 am #302806Any rumblings on extensions?
March 17, 2026 at 9:34 am #302815
jj-cf-stlParticipantConsider that Bill has 60mil total, invested in the 40man players attending his ST, with a deadline selloff as a real possibility.
March 17, 2026 at 10:20 am #302817Any rumblings on extensions?
Not this year. Maybe next year if they are forced to abide by a salary floor in the new CBA.
March 17, 2026 at 2:13 pm #302823Soriano has pitched well this spring. I was concerned after trading Granillo for him. We’ll see what he does during the regular season.
March 17, 2026 at 7:24 pm #302828It doesn’t appear that the “lab” had much of a positive impact on Walker.
March 17, 2026 at 7:49 pm #302829Thanks Bling. I’ve seen several comments that express high hopes for Weatherholt. Let’s hope he pans out into a solid Big League baseball player. We could sure use a few of those.
March 17, 2026 at 11:56 pm #302859I was at 99% that JJ would be the opening day 2B a week ago, I’ve dropped that way down.
I’m in favor of him getting 100 AB’s in Memphis then come up when he has an extra year of team control at the end of April.
Walker starting in Memphis should be a no brainer, he has used up his prospect pedigree good faith.
Soriano and Velezquez were two great finds!
March 18, 2026 at 5:39 pm #302895Pallante has had good spring, but I wonder if his salary made him the fifth starter. Even with a new boss, FO and owners still don’t want to pay 4 mill + to start at Memphis.
March 18, 2026 at 5:41 pm #302896I see Herrera was behind the plate a few innings today. And Leahy did well.
March 19, 2026 at 1:23 am #302923JJ’s numbers for the month of March have not been good. Winn has had bad b2b springs at the plate but seems to figure it out a bit regular season.
Pallante earned his spot so far but that is on a start to start basis due to trust issues.
March 19, 2026 at 7:27 am #302926
jj-cf-stlParticipant27, Pallante could have been non-tendered this offseason (John King). The FO could have walked away, but they CHOSE to keep him for his innings eater value in 2026.
Andre has had a cherry picked ST facing the Marlins. MLB is up next.
