I mean..the urias signing prob just means no JJ for opening day unfortunately- right?
Not necessarily. It probably means that Fermin and Saggese will be putting in more time in LF. I still think JJ makes the opening day roster at 2B.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGood to see Leahy as a starter is still on the table.
February 22, 2026 at 12:57 pm #301507Raniel Rodriguez hit a nice double down the LF line in his first Spring Training at bat. Pozo later doubled in 2 with the bases loaded. Fun to have baseball back.
February 22, 2026 at 2:32 pm #301510Thanks for the Mathews report, Gags.
February 22, 2026 at 2:34 pm #301511Its fun seeing the names in the box score these early spring games. Guys getting a look before heading over to minor league camp, or looking for another org.
February 22, 2026 at 2:35 pm #301512Yeah, I ddon’t think Urias necessarily blocks Wetherholtt. Seems more of an insurance in case either of Gorman or Wetherholt, or perhaps Fermin or Saggese do not cut it, or in the case of the latter two they see quite a bit of outfield time.
Urias has some pop, but at 31 is a bit on the downhill side.
February 22, 2026 at 2:42 pm #301513Watched a couple innings today. Wind was whipping all over. Noticed the ABS and that we don’t have a sponsor on our ST uni’s. You’d figure they’d want to pedal some companies product and make up for all the lost TV revenue.

When I was a kid Stag Beer sponsored the team for years, so we had the stylized “Stag” on our unis. Somewhere I have a picture of little bitty me next to a much older cousin in his little league uni sponsored by Lucky Strike cigarettes. I don’t guess they would allow all that now days.
February 22, 2026 at 7:05 pm #301525Was watching on my cell so didn’t get a good look at the Rodriguez double but it looked like he crushed that ball.
February 22, 2026 at 10:21 pm #301526The rotation spots for 4/5/6 is sure something to watch.
Libby, May, McGreevy are locks I’d assume.
Leheay, Fitts, Dobbins, Mathews and sadly Pallante are all fighting for the last two spots.
Same with so many catcher options. I wouldn’t hate it if they just put Herrera in LF so he can play 150 games.
February 23, 2026 at 1:03 pm #301540McGreevey gave up quite a bit of hard contact today. Still, only his first 2 innings of ST so could be irrelevant.
Wetherholt now with 2 errors in 2 partial games played. That could be small sample size or jitters but that’s more concerning to me.
Fermin looking real good thus far both at the plate while playing solid in LF.
February 23, 2026 at 2:44 pm #301541Too many free passes the last couple games. Hopefully they can be explained by nerves.

ParticipantSo on the errors of wetherholt.. ive only heard praises of his hitting. What is his defensive history, anyone in the know.
February 23, 2026 at 5:59 pm #301591He’s fairly average Willie. He’s got the athleticism to be better than average and 2B generally appears to be his best position (certainly his most experienced position). Generally defense takes a while to grade out and he only has 1 professional season so it’s still a bit up in the air.
February 23, 2026 at 7:14 pm #301593He also has mainly played SS up until last year

ParticipantWell errors happen i guess some. But to me if hes just average at defense, hes def going to have to be a lot better than good at offense at least in my eyes. Hopefully he improves.
February 23, 2026 at 8:53 pm #301598You can never tell how these hype train guys are going to look when they get to MLB. None of the professionals want to be ‘that guy’ who breaks from the herd and says whoa, wait a minute. So it might be real or it might not. We will be finding out real soon probably.
February 24, 2026 at 12:17 am #301602Got Pallante going tomorrow. Hope he’s worked on his extra special pitch like he did in 24. I haven’t heard much out there about him. That has me concerned.
February 24, 2026 at 6:42 am #301604
jj-cf-stlParticipantIf you haven’t seen the Leahy pitch that whiffed Jeremy Pena, it’s worth a look.
February 24, 2026 at 8:25 am #301608
jj-cf-stlParticipantWho will get the battery mate assignment with Pallante’s one-hoppers? Backstop day.

stlcard25ParticipantThis is the Leahy pitch that JJ mentioned above, I believe…
Check out this nasty sweeper from Kyle Leahy:

Apparently McGreevy was inadvertently given BP balls during his start. The article doesn’t say exactly when they fixed the issue, but I’m wondering if the BP balls caused a drop in velocity.

ParticipantThe St. Louis fans have always enjoyed coming out to see All Star type players and legacy players. Tough to go through a restructuring like this. Hopefully a few of the young guys will excel and create excitement.
February 24, 2026 at 11:11 am #301615Has Leahy named his pitch yet like Pallante did? The “Death Ball” or “Death Star” or whatever it was called didn’t turn out so great.
February 24, 2026 at 11:39 am #301617
jj-cf-stlParticipantLeahy has 5 pitches. Maybe he doesn’t want the work in naming them? 😉
