Roberts should be fired tonight. Takes vesia out of the game after two batters to bring in scott who gives up a leadoff homer in the 6th. Where is the wisdom in that

1982 willie – Are you a gamblin man, or what? Robert’s has done a fine job managing the Dodgers. The Dodgers are not out in front because their owner refused to spend the additional money needed to build a powerhouse. Only another 60-80M$ would have done it.

Jojo has been a big help to the Dodgers. I hope the Brewers can get two innings out of him.

I think its done. The only players for the dodgers having consistently good at bats for dodgers are pages and tucker. Everybody else outside of one swing by ohtani looks like they never hit before. A good manager being in roberts position in this game would win it, i even think marmol would have won this one.

Well the brewers did it. I was hoping for a few more playoff games but oh well. Good for them. Good for baseball as well. Gonna be a new winner this year.

Sweet! I haven’t been to a world series game since 1982……I was long overdue.

Ding Dong the witch is dead. The Dodgers aren’t ruining baseball after all.

It is going to be a small market World Series. Sorry Manfred. No salary cap for you.

    Swee…eep!

This entire game was one hair raising experience.

Now if the Dodgers will get serious about winning during the offseason and spend some serious money to beef up their roster, they could possibly have another run at it next season.

Ashby is my star of the game with Romero a close second.

Yeah! The wicked witch is dead.

Its kind of interesting about the salary cap argument and the thought that a lower payroll team winning the world series would give less ammunition for a salary cap that the owners want. But it also gives encouragement to owners that dont want to spend money. So it isnt for sure a good thing for the players.

Well fancy that! I watched the first three innings and finally, at 4-0 Dodgers, I gave in to the 3 a.m. sleepies and stumbled off to bed, figuring I’d take a nap before game five.
I don’t need to tell you what joy Friday morning breakfast was with orange juice, toast, tea and MLB replay.
    Who are those guys!?
Let’s root for a good midwestern series.

I’m glad to see the Dodgers ousted. Their advantages were mighty but that isn’t any kind of guarantee, especially in baseball. Milwaukee showed all season long why they are a formidable opponent. It would be great to see a “have-not” (as I’ve termed them) win it all. While the Brewers don’t qualify there (they are in the middle of the pack in revenue and payroll), both the Rays and Guardians would certainly qualify. They are the kind of team that seems to never win it anymore.

I believe most baseball fans are happy to see the Brewers knock out the LA behemoth. And now a chance for a Milwukee team to claim their first championship since before Vince Lombardi took over as coach of the Packers. It’s been awhile.

Meanwhile the Guardians are up a game in the ALCS. No doubt the Brewers will be favored over either AL club. But whoever gets there, it should be a fun Series. And whoever gets there will be the first ever World Series between these two organizations, and these two cities as well.

I wonder if the Brewers will bring some of the ’82 guys back as guests for the Series – Yount, Simba, Fingers, Cooper, Molitor and the bunch.

Defining what a small market team may not be an exact science but if Milwaukee isn’t a small market team then I don’t know what is. In fact I have seen some publications list them as the smallest market in all of MLB.

    2026 Payroll Rank per Cots:

    19-Brewers
    27-Rays
    29-Guardians

Lets see what Google AI says:

    AI Overview

In Major League Baseball (MLB), a small-market team is generally defined by a combination of a smaller television/media market, lower local revenue generation, and a smaller overall payroll capacity rather than just the physical size of the city.

    How Market Size is Determined

    • Television/Media Markets (Nielsen DMAs): Market size is primarily measured by local television households and broadcast reach rather than total city or metro population. For example, Miami has a massive metropolitan population, but its local TV market ranking is much lower.
    • Metro Population: Only three MLB teams—the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, and Cincinnati Reds—reside in metropolitan areas with populations under two million people.
    • MLB Revenue Sharing: MLB does not use an official “small market” label in its rulebook, but instead operates on a financial divide of revenue-sharing recipients versus revenue-sharing payors. Teams that receive revenue-sharing distributions—such as the Brewers, Royals, Pirates, Reds, Marlins, Rays, Guardians, Rockies, Orioles, and Padres—are commonly treated as small-to-medium or budget-restricted market clubs.

    Frequently Cited Small-Market Teams

While definitions vary based on ownership spending and local media deals, franchises most frequently categorized as small-market include:
    • Milwaukee Brewers
    • Kansas City Royals
    • Pittsburgh Pirates
    • Cincinnati Reds
    • Tampa Bay Rays
    • Cleveland Guardians
    • Miami Marlins
    • Colorado Rockies

Gscottar – I agree Milwaukee is a “small market” team. That’s just not how I have defined the haves and have nots specifically. For me, it’s more about revenue. Over the past 5 years or so, because of their success, Milwaukee went from a borderline mid-low revenue team to a mid revenue team. I think that while Milwaukee is in and of itself “small” compared to most other cities, they have the advantage that Wisconsonites support their teams and are willing to travel and tune in even when teams have tough years but especially when they are good. That isn’t the case in Tampa for example. I’m sure Pugs can attest to the fervor at which those who are from Wisconsin support their teams.

I’ll also add as a former resident of the Chicago area…there are plenty of Brewer fans who live in northern Illinois for work reasons who don’t get counted in the TV or metro stats. Depending on the time of day, it may be just as quick to go to Milwaukee for a game as it is to try to get to Wrigley or the White Sox stadium. And as Jnevel says, they support their teams pretty well. It’s sort of like the Cardinals saying they were “small market” for so many years that they finally believed their own words and started acting poor.

Taking a gander at the meteorological conditions for tonights ALCS contest in Cleveland.

According to the Doppler Radar there is a ton of rain in and around the greater metropolitan Cleveland area as I am typing this (4:00 est). It’s hard to say whether it will all be moved on by the time of the first pitch (8:10 est). My gut feeling is that there will indeed be baseball tonight at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland.

    Stay tuned at this point…..

As I recall, Bloom hired a young guy from the Guardians organization as he was impressed with what the guy had been doing for them.

There are ways for clubs with less revenue to compete. The question though, is can it be sustained. It would seem as players succeed for smaller revenue clubs, they will end up gravitating to the big four or five teams once they go free agent. Can the smaller revenue team keep coming up with replacements? Seems like that will be hit or miss.

And now a chance for a Milwaukee team to claim their first championship since before Vince Lombardi took over as coach of the Packers.

Let us not forget the two championships that the Lew Alcindor and then 40 years later, the Giannis led Bucks squads brought to Milwaukee, BicycleMike.

I’m sure Pugs can attest to the fervor at which those who are from Wisconsin support their teams.

Both Milwaukee and Cleveland fans go absolutely crazy when their teams are excelling, Jnevel. Milwaukee fans are generally pretty civil, but Cleveland fans can get pretty nasty when their team is playing either the Yankees or Steelers, as they passionately detest both. The Brewers are presently the talk of the town. You can’t walk into any store without hearing conversations about the team. The championship is in the bag. It makes no difference whatsoever who emerges from the AL…….the Brewers have this.

The Brewers do have a very supportive fan base but they still don’t spend a lot of money. They were ranked 19th this year but in a lot of years they are in the lower to mid 20’s in payroll rank. I think they were as high as 15th a few years ago but then went back down. Despite their relatively frugal spending they just keep winning. A winning culture can trump spending levels. They regularly dump their good players before free agency, lost their star manager to the Cubs, lost their well regarded PBO to the Mets…..doesn’t matter.

To me the Brewers remind me of a Whitey Herzog type team, minus all of the elite base stealers. They go with solid starting pitching, a very good bullpen, good defense, and an offense that doesn’t overwhelm you with power but just grinds you up with contact and extra base hits. As their manager said after the game last night, “that other dugout has the hall of famers but we have the gamers.”

Yeah, those Bucks of young Alcindor and the veteran Oscar Robertson got ‘er done, and the latter day version as well. But for baseball it has been since Joe Adcock, Red Schoendienst, Johnny Logan and Ed Mathews manned the infield. Del Crandall handled most of the catching duties, with Wes Covington, Billy Bruton, and Hammerin’ Hank in the outer garden. Spahn, Burdette and Buhl were the big three on the hill.

Milwaukee was gaga over those Braves back in the day. I believe there was a car dealership that gave Braves players a new car. The bloom fell off the rose though and by the mid sixties they were headed to Atlanta. Atlanta wooed the Athletics before the Braves, but when the city leaders met with Charlie Finley they were put off by his personality and attitude, and then I believe it was at the 1963 All Star game that they met up with Braves’ officials, who were looking into a possible relocation.

Great baseball town, as is Cleveland. As I have mentioned I was impressed with Guardians fans when I was there in 2024. A lot of excitement and quite a few “mom and pop” stands across from the stadium selling Guardians and Indians merchandise. A Bob Feller statue greets you as you go to the main gate.
