I know tbe brewers are the cardinals rival but the brewers play the game the way the cardinals should be playing the game. Bunting a guy over with the 7th batter with 8 and 9 coming up. You are putting the onus on those guys to do their job. Very few if any other teams would do that. I found it funny that smoltz was saying it was a bad decision because those 8 and 9 hitters didnt look good the first time but just as he was saying that, the guy got a hit and drove the runner in. Hilarious. I expect henderson to pitch well and yommamoto usually does so this should be a good game. I kind of agree with a rod on one tning. If the brewers keep goung to their same guys in the bullpen and early, it does give the hitters more time to figure these guys out. Could pay dividends later in the series.

All locked up tight at 1-1 in the home half of the 2nd at MIL. The Dodgers are in a dog fight with these Brewers. I’ll never, ever at all be able to root for a NLC division rival. I detest all 4 of them. I was also around for the ’82 WS and vividly recall Nyger Morgan and the finger pointing liar Braun for the ’11 season. Go Dodgers…Haha!

Dodgers got some help getting their runs, not too many actual hits. Right now brewers are outplaying and outpitching them. Watching some of the other game. Catcher for rays made a great throw to get ramirez stealing.

A little rain helped turn a leadoff single into a double for the rays. Ball just skipped off the grass. Rays bunted him over. Next guy drives him in with a single. I think with rays brewers we will actually get real baseball in the world series.

I’ve been checking out a Dodger forum that had a little over 2000 comments during this afternoon’s game thread and I couldn’t find any remarks that are at all fond of Dave Roberts right now…Haha!

I don’t think I’ve seen a CS in the post-season since Molina retired.

    Bailey and DeLauter have homered.

It’s now a 2-2 game in the top of the 7th in Tampa.

That’s 4 consecutive post-season W’s that them Indians have placed into the books. They’re shootin’ 7’s and drawin’ to aces.

Crew now up 2-0 in the series as they head back to LA. Things are getting a little dicey in the pro-salary cap camp.

The shameless and ghastly ghost of Nyger and Brauny will emerge to place a horrifying curse on the detestable Brewers…At least that’s what the little baseball expert gypsy forewarns.

Brewers and Guardians are hot! If one of those clubs can capture the prize, it will be the first championship since Satchel Paige was coming out of the bullpen for Cleveland, and first ever for the Brewers, who were intially born as the long forgotten Seattle Pilots, and the first for Milwaukee since Red Schoendienst was patrolling second base.

Apparently an error by Jose Ramirez opened the gates for Tampa.

It’s 3-0 Rays in the top of the 6th now in Tampa.

And the Rays hang on to tie the series 1-1.

    3-1 Tampa your final.

Doyers and Brewers up next tomorrow night.

Yep, Ramirez with a big error while former Brewer Freddie Peralta was sharp, leading to 3-1 Rays win and an even series.

If the Crew can get just one out west, they are good shape. Meanwhile the Guards need to probably take two of three in the “Land” to have a good shot at getting to the big show.

That error by Ramirez last night that opened the door for Tampa Bay was a groundball that went right between his legs, right under his glove. There were two outs as well. That scored a run and the runners moved up to 2nd and 3rd. The next batter singled to right center and boom – it’s all of a sudden 3-0 Tampa.

    The game humbles the best.

Good article by Eno Sarris. As he says the four remaining teams are four very smart teams, especially the Rays and Brewers.

Trade Walker – he’s too tall. 😁. I guess in a way, short guys have an advantage due to smaller strike zones. It might be that you prefer short offensive players and tall pitchers.

Ramirez actually made 2 errors though one was more mental than an actual error. On the high chop to the shortstop with the guy on first, he didnt cover his bag so the runner just took third easily. Then he let the ball play him on the next hit and that allowed a run to score and 2 guys to be at second n third.

One thing ive wondered though watching the rays is i dont really consider them a small ball team like some have said. Ive only seen one attempted bunt from them. There were lots of siruations they had where i think milwaukee would def bunt.

The Rays may not be small ball but they are small payroll and heavy into analytics.

They’re more of what’s now termed, “Shortball.”

Bunting is usually bad. All teams know this. Trading a base for an out is a bad trade. Bunting slightly increases the odds of scoring 1 run but dramatically decreases the odds of scoring multiple runs in an inning.

There are a few situations where it is definitely good:

    1) Good bunter who is a fast runner
    2) Bottom of the inning in a tie game where 1 run wins the game.
    3) Runners on first and second with no one out and an average or below hitter coming up (because here you’re trading 2 bases for one out).
    4) Your name is Jake Taylor and you just tried calling your shot against a guy called the Duke who once threw at his son in a father/son game (at least according to Harry Doyle).

A few other situations where it might be good:

    1) Elite pitcher on the mound where getting 2 hits will be difficult.
    2) Poor hitter at the plate who strikes out a lot and is competent at bunting.
