Luis Enrique Gastelum…….was thinking our young player just might inhabit the same family tree as ex-Braves slugging 1st baseman Mike Lum, but after an extensive search, no connection appears viable. Regardless, he has my nod at our coveted Top Prospect #21 slot. Thank you gentlemen.I noticed Holiday’s name has been voted on quite a bit this round but not a lot of discussion about him. Not saying it is a bad pick, but without seeing him, is everyone just going on reputation? I would love to hear what people are thinking!

Cardinals second pick (3rd Rd) in the ‘24 draft. I had the opportunity to watch him pitch multiple times for Oklahoma State University. He is under-sized (5’ 11”) but is a strike thrower. Very good K/BB ratio. Hasn’t made his professional debut so purely speculation as to his potential.

21. Won Bin Cho. Big power, big unknowns. Hope he hits.
22. Jonathan Mejia, SS. He was probably the best hitter on the rookie ball team this year, which, given how badly that team struggled, may not be saying much. Still, he was a bonus baby a few years back and is still only 19. You’d think he will be at Palm Beach next year and could be next in the line of toolsy SS that the Cards have placed there.

Honeyman 1Gastelum and Cho had the same vote totals…2 for #21 and 3 for #22. Thus, the 2nd tiebreaker was invoked. It’s “who got there first” and Gastelum had his 7 points before Cho got there (Cho got the last vote from me, just before the end of voting). Thus, Gastelum got the edge.
Interestingly, the voting has revealed 12 right handed pitchers in the first 22 picks. I’m not sure if we’ve ever had that many before in such a short span. Hopefully it will replenish the pitching staff in the next few years so we can avoid the patches and short term fixes with 35+ year old pitchers.

Still stumping for Henderson. ERA under 3.00 as a starter this year at two levels.
