Assuming no injuries, this is also likely to be the opening day lineup. We will have to see how long Arenado maintains the 4-spot. Ideally one of Gorman/Walker/Nootbaar claim it by June.

Advertising a cleanup hitter, with a sub .400 slg, lol!

The 4spot leads-off a ton of innings. Noots obp fits there best and doesn’t disrupt the R/L/R/L stagger.

Arenado in the 4 hole may also be ‘advertising’.

I feel so very blah about Cardinals baseball – I need to shake this off….

That may or may not be the opening day lineup. I could also envision Gorman at 2B, Donnie in LF, Noot in CF, Burly at 1B or DH, and Siani on the bench.

I see Burleson and Saggese not listed as available. I know it’s the first spring game, but kinda expected Burleson.

And I really don’t like the line-up. I like moving Donovan up, but my opinion the ONLY line-up that makes sense is
    Vs. RHP
    1. Donovan LF
    2. Winn SS
    3. Nootbaar CF
    4. Contreras 1B
    5. Burleson DH
    6. Arenado 3B
    7. Walker RF
    8. Gorman 2B
    9. Herrera C

    Vs. LHP
    1. Donovan LF
    2. Winn SS
    3. Nootbaar CF
    4. Contreras 1B
    5. Arenado 3B
    6. Herrera C
    7. Walker RF
    8. Gorman DH
    9. Saggese 2B

I know it’s not their best defensive line-up, which would be Donovan at 2B Nootbaar in LF and Siani in CF. But a much better offensive line-up and much deeper than anything they can do with that defensive line-up.

Thanks for the info. But I agree with Oli on this one. I think Burleson is serviceable in RF if necessary, but needs to be at 1B where I think he best fits defensively. Though if he’s going to be a regular 1B he needs to be able to hit LHP. At DH hes much easier to platoon, and like I’ve said previously I think he has to be platooned because vs RHP he was one of the best hitters in the league and vs. LHP he was one of the worst.

Maybe Burly improves vs lefties, if given the developmental opportunity. Should it be case closed already for him?

I don’t think “case closed” on it, but even a slight improvement isn’t going to justify playing him vs LHP over about anyone. It’s going to have to be a substantial improvement. But vs RHP he’s going to be a must to have in the line-up.

There is so much PD to be done on the 26man, that a tolerance for expected developmental failure, that is already built into the minors levels, will also be necessary on Oli’s club.

Welp, checked the box score to see if I got lucky on the Herrera prediction (no) and I see the pitchers did great until Horn gave up 4 in 2/3 of an inning. I’m always nervous until I see each of our projected starters actually start a spring game. Fedde got it over with today. I don’t know HOW many times we’ve heard, “oh, he’s about a week out” over the years just to have the guy out for 3 months or the whole year.

Thanks 667, you know his career minors too, so I appreciate the input. Fortunately he’s good against the big sample of righties.

So Burleson is break glass if necessary but Walker isn’t in RF? Lol

Complaining about lineup construction day one in ST is about meaningless as the first ( if not all) NFL preseason game.

Wetherholt gets his first dong. Fly ball to LF. (Opposite field) Can’t tell from video if it was wind aided or not but it was well gone. Hopefully Robersse was just “working on some stuff” as 9R in 2/3 of an inning is not mid season form. According to the box Roby threw 2 clean innings. Mikolos threw 2 scoreless as well so I’ll take the positive news and ignore the “L” since those things don’t matter as much right now.

It wasn’t complaining about a spring training line up. It was gscotter saying it could be the opening day line up and me stating the only line up I’d like to see early until things shake out the way a long MLB season does.

My approach is to be thankful that these practice games are meaningless. We can all relax and take solace in the fact that it’ll be another five weeks or so until the little whiz-kid begins the genuine torture in the form of line-up contructions, BP management, tactical and strategic decisions, etc. The protracted waterboarding session doesn’t begin until we open at home against the Twins. That’s right, the Twins…Haha!

Well, Robberse looks a bit rough around the edges. 9 hits and 7 ER in 2/3 of an inning…

Perhaps he’s still a year away

Robberse was trying out a new pitch. I’m not sure what to make of it. The results were terrible but Blake Newberry was ecstatic about it. So I think I’ll just call it a first Spring Training outing and wait and see.

Roby looked fantastic. Again though, small sample size.

Luken Baker with a 3-run shot gives the good guys a lead. Helsley comes in now in the 3rd inning to ensure we don’t blow it this time around.

76.5 is the current over/under Team wins for the Cardinals this year in Vegas

McGreevy pitched pretty well in his first spring outing. Tink Hence got crushed, and had to use the get out of inning free card to get more than 2 outs.

5 hits in the last 18 innings is not exactly bringing much excitement

but…Its still early (till it gets too late)
