Rats, we have really good content here on our homepage. This ran a week ago today.
February 23, 2024 at 3:18 pm #242974Lots of fish fries in the St. Louis area this time of year. Cod, catfish and jack salmon along with macaroni and cheese cole slaw etc. Our favorite is Epiphany Parish in the city not far from our old house. I can skate cheap and still eat like a king. Can’t hardly get a better deal than an old fashioned church fish fry on a Friday this time of year.
February 24, 2024 at 11:49 am #243004We don’t need another shortstop right now. If Masyn gets injured (as opposed to some expected and reasonable muscle soreness and tightness at the beginning), then things change. If you want to exchange Fermin for an upgrade, ok, but Gamboa is MLB-ready. His swing has holes, but he can hit. He has some thump and is a pure shortstop.
The roster is wonky, and AAA ss is weaker than the MLB level. We have about 11 2nd basemen and two shortstops at the top levels.February 24, 2024 at 11:54 am #243005Gamboa pronounces his name Ar-kim-e-dez, not like the Greek inventor.
February 25, 2024 at 1:10 pm #243037Is Donovan recovered from his arm problem? Will he be able to throw the ball and play in the field at the start of the season?
February 25, 2024 at 1:15 pm #243039From a few days ago:
#STLCards CF Tommy Edman will miss the first full team workout because of a stomach bug, Oli Marmol said. Dylan Carlson (ankle surgery) is limited with his running, while Brendan Donovan (elbow surgery) will have his throwing monitored. Donovan is likely to stick at 2B for now.

February 25, 2024 at 1:16 pm #243040Top #STLCards prospect Tekoah Roby has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday because of back tightness. Sem Robberese, who came over in the Jordan Hicks trade in July, will now start on Monday against the #Marlins. @MLBPipeline

February 25, 2024 at 4:45 pm #243051Roby getting the season off with a thud.
February 25, 2024 at 5:21 pm #243052Oh crap Bling! Did the season start? I was looking forward to six or seven weeks of spring, and I missed the whole thing.
February 26, 2024 at 7:44 pm #243119per Denton. #STLCards starting pitchers in the days ahead: RHP Sonny Gray (Tuesday), RHP Miles Mikolas (Wednesday), RHP Kyle Gibson (Thursday) and LHP Matthew Liberatore (Friday).
Maybe Roby will piggyback at some point, but he hasn’t been reschedued as a headliner as of yet.
February 27, 2024 at 9:22 am #243151No surprise that Marmol has named Gray the Opening Day starter. The order of the others are TBD.
February 27, 2024 at 9:38 am #243154Why would he name an opening day starter in Feb?
February 27, 2024 at 10:35 am #24315875 million reasons why.
February 27, 2024 at 2:07 pm #243166I get the need to acknowledge the paper, but why can’t he keep his mouth shut until at least the month of March? One of the countless reasons that I don’t like the guy is that he doesn’t seem to have the ability to control what he says or when he says it.
February 28, 2024 at 5:14 am #243184The Cardinals’ zero homers is good for sole possession of last place in home runs hit in ST games so far.
February 28, 2024 at 7:21 am #243186Saw that Mercado hit 2 home runs yesterday. Regrets?
February 28, 2024 at 7:56 am #243187I wonder if Mikolas is raw that he’s not the opening day starter? If guess he’s probably not but you never know about a man’s ego.
February 28, 2024 at 8:28 am #243188
jj-cf-stlParticipantI doubt it too. I’ve read that Miles was in favor of a larger veteran presence in the clubhouse. Will a vet CY-2 from last season do? I’d bet Miles understands the trickle down effect, and endorses it.
February 28, 2024 at 8:45 am #243189Miles could hardly expect them to give it to a guy who went 9-13.
February 28, 2024 at 9:22 am #243192Mikolas loves Gray. He plays cards and ping pong.
February 28, 2024 at 12:45 pm #243208I don’t understand why some take exception to the manager naming the clearly best pitcher on the team as the opening day starter. The calendar seemed to make that clear…
I get that some do not like the manager, but this particular criticism feels like a stretch to me.
February 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm #243218ICYMI, the #stlcards gave Brandon Crawford his no. 35, worn for all 13 years with the Giants. Jose Fermin shifted to no. 15, last worn by Brad Miller in 2020.

February 29, 2024 at 4:57 am #243232I don’t understand why some take exception to the manager naming the clearly best pitcher on the team as the opening day starter.
I reject any suggestion that Marmol got to decide if the the new $75M pitcher starts on opening day.
February 29, 2024 at 5:18 am #243233So the original poster incorrectly blamed Marmol for a decision you believe he did not make…
Of course you completely ignore the only question that matters. What is wrong with the decision to start your best pitcher?
Surely there is something else of significance to discuss. This ain’t it.
February 29, 2024 at 5:37 am #243235I do not know why there was a discussion about it at all. I had previously noted that Mikolas was 9-13, so its not like there could have any discussion about it. My point here is that Marmol had nothing to do with any opening day starter decision, which had been implied.
