Now there is some tea leaf reading. Can you expand on the significance of the stall placement? For us dot connecting impaired.

Bling, the higher your AAV, the bigger your stall. That’s why Arenado is smiling and Carp isn’t!

Carpenter has the Sergeant at Arms post at the door. Play nice boys or I will get you bounced.

Gorman, Walker and Nootbaar may be considered by some to be the possible next generation of leaders. The rookie Winn is placed next to the most seasoned player, Carpenter.

In past years I usually examined the WWU autograph prices, both as to who is worth more than who, and each player’s price year to year, up or down. A lot of good insight could be gleaned, but I didn’t do it this year. The locker stall placement is almost as good. And was that Carp sitting next to BDW?

“Dylan Carlson (ankle surgery) is limited with his running, while Brendan Donovan (elbow surgery) will have his throwing monitored. Donovan is likely to stick at 2B for now.” per Denton.

The outfield depth is concerning early on with those health issues. Pssst, Edman is the backup SS too!

They could always add a vet SS before opening day, for the bench utility role, but they haven’t.

I’m now considering that Winn may have no leash at all. Sink or swim at SS is looking like a possibility.

“It’s tougher to connect to younger generations. You wanna play ping pong against the guys, and some of the younger guys, sit around on their phones a lot, and it’s a lot of social media. I’d rather sit there and play some card games…

There must be a game of TEGWAR going on somewhere. Who knows what the card game TEGWAR is?

It may be hard to connect for the younger generations too. How about a ping pong game for them and the loser has to play cards with Mikolas?

We’re only talking 10 or 12 years age difference, with few exceptions. It seems like everyone of the veterans who opens his mouth is spewing excuses. What happened last year is nobody stepped up. They were there and nobody stepped in to fill the void. It is really sad hearing them talk about the young players. They should be talking about why they and their fellow veterans didn’t step up.

I still have it on my shelf of baseball books. A paperback reprint probably from the 80s. I never did see the movie version.

According to Gould, Edman is weeks away from facing pitchers. So,it starts already

A blurb on CBS sports concludes with

“The Cardinals still believe Edman has enough time to be ready for Opening Day, but he seems to be working with a tight window.”

I’m not concerned as of now. All the health matters we’ve heard anything about relate to guys who had off season prodedures getting back up to speed, rather than new injuries or set backs. The squad is thin everywhere, though, so the season will seem perpetually on thin ice.

You guys act like the Cardinals are the only team that has injuries. If Tommy isn’t ready for opening day, the major problem is a backup ss. I think we can deal with that. And actually we have a pretty good everyday squad. Injuries to our starting pitching is the biggest concern.

So we are two days from the first games of spring, no? Typically I’d be really excited, but I haven’t been following much at all this year. On a different note, I’m living much closer to St Louis so we’re hoping to get to a game or two this summer.

I’ve watched Bang the Drum Slowly many times…. and should watch it again tonight. Always amusing. A young DeNiro and Moriarty are a great battery duo. TEGWAR is fictional…. a card game in which players and coaches scam overly enthusiastic BB fans by making up rules on the fly to earn some side money.

Well, that is a negative interpretation. Here is Goold’s exact quote.

“…They expect Edman, who is still a week or more from facing pitchers, to be ready for opening day and in center field….”

So now all of a sudden, they finally realize they are thin at shortstop. No kidding.

Yep I’m weary from inaccurate and negative press and postings. I’ve really cut back on reading all the stuff on the internet. I miss the days of TSN and professional writers. Now everyone with a cellphone is an expert. I miss Bob Broeg. Now we all focus too much on the $ and the flawed front office. I’m guilty. Can’t wait for opening day. I’m actually pretty pleased with what we have now that it’s soaked in. Brian is right about the ss depth and health of our sp is concerning. Other than that I’m glad we didn’t trade any young controlled core guys. If we had traded Carlson for peanuts like everyone wanted, this Edman issue would be a much bigger deal. Maybe fo is a little more on the ball than we give credit for.

Yeah I canceled my P-D subscription today. Had been pondering it for awhile. I have never been a fan of Goold’s writing but the bottom line for me is that I never really learn anything from their Cardinal coverage that I didn’t already know from here or somewhere else. And their website is hard to navigate with the never ending ad popups. Not worth the $25/month or whatever it was.

They will soon start bombarding you with a $1 for six months online offer. They send me two or three emails every day… Be careful if you take it, as they auto-renew at the full price three weeks early without notification and make refunds very difficult to get. Terrible customer service.

Don’t take my word for it. Check out the complaints at the Better Business Bureau. Some are lodged against the P-D with even more in a different place against their parent, Lee Newspapers.

Here is the warning on the BBB website:

    CURRENT ALERTS FOR THIS BUSINESS
    Pattern of Complaint:
BBB has received a pattern of complaints against St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Consumers allege failure to receive newspapers, difficulty cancelling a subscription, difficulty speaking with a person or receiving a return phone call, billing issues, and poor customer service.

I believe it and I don’t plan on renewing at any price because their content just isn’t that good.

I cancelled quite a while back. The sports coverage was ok-ish though.

Do we have a schedule yet with regards to the ST games that will be televised on FSMW?

It’s about time to start the din-din routine again.

What the heck, I’ll start today. Going to the Amish restaurant today down in Montgomery, the Gasthof. Catfish Fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes, noodles, dressing, sweet iced tea, and soft serve vanilla ice cream for dessert.

I have been under the weather this week so hopefully a big meal will make me feel better. Then afterwards I am going to the high school basketball game in Montgomery. The last game of the year. The Bloomfield Cardinals face the Barr-Reeve Vikings (Montgomery). Experts predict about a 15 point BR win.
