Yeah, I was thinking that all 3 runs on the 3 run tater were on the books charged to Romero. I must have missed something. Oh look…It’s The Nootz on an interview!
March 20, 2023 at 10:03 pm #214397The Nootz sounds different than Ohtani…
March 20, 2023 at 10:06 pm #214398I’ll say I like the Japanese unis. You can’t go wrong with pinstripes.
March 20, 2023 at 10:18 pm #214399I think if a group of people with a lot of money, and I mean a LOT of money could get together and organize a league similar to the format of this WBC that it would draw some interest and maybe pay off and survive. Maybe 4 groups with a 50 to 75 game season and a two round post-season. Don’t know how they’d set up the travel intricacies, but I don’t think it’d be impossible to figure out.
March 20, 2023 at 10:55 pm #214400Anything can happen, but I’d have to guess the USA is the favorite.
Before it all started, I was seeing odds that showed the top 3 were DR, USA, Japan, in that order. Just looked at Fanduel and it is currently set at -120 USA, -102 Japan, but has been bouncing around a bit. Don’t think either team has named a starter yet.
March 21, 2023 at 5:48 pm #214434Interesting thought 1TD. Sort of like those alternative pro football leagues that have come and gone.
It might work, but I think there is a saturation point when it comes to fan interest, and you just cannot handle too much more than is already available.
March 21, 2023 at 6:05 pm #214436Arenado is in the lineup tonight. There was lots of signal the hand was ok, but I’m still glad to see him out there.
March 21, 2023 at 6:23 pm #214437The primary reason I thought it might retain some interest and possibly be profitable, BikeMike, is for the simple reason that the fan base would theoretically consist of an entire nation, so that’s a pretty large market share. Furthermore, there’s the possible added attraction of rabid patriotism. At any rate, I held little, if any, interest in this WBC until I started watching. It got it’s hooks into me in a hurry. Of course, there’s no Big League action to serve as competition, so I’m pretty sure that had something to do with it…Haha!
March 21, 2023 at 6:28 pm #214438Bust it out of the box and end up at 2B. Way to go, Mike!
March 21, 2023 at 6:33 pm #214439Not sure how to feel about Kelly in this situation. First-pitch out is a good start.
March 21, 2023 at 6:35 pm #214440Kelly looks just like “The guy under the seats” on Letterman…Haha!
March 21, 2023 at 6:47 pm #214441Can’t get this guy out…1-0!
March 21, 2023 at 6:47 pm #214442Trea, Trea, Trea, Trea, Trea! That’s five if you’re counting.
March 21, 2023 at 6:58 pm #214443That didn’t take long. Someone in the Big Leagues needs to sign that guy.
March 21, 2023 at 7:03 pm #214444Can’t go much longer with Kelly. He wasn’t good last time and he’s not looking good now.
March 21, 2023 at 7:08 pm #214445Fearsome Noot chases Kelly off the mound.
March 21, 2023 at 7:09 pm #214446Yanking Kelly with one out in the 2nd. It’s the right move. Too bad he’s evidently the best USA has to start a championship game.
March 21, 2023 at 7:15 pm #214447Loup did a good job of cleaning up Kelly’s mess.
March 21, 2023 at 7:16 pm #214448I was surprised they used Mikolas yesterday, with the lead, instead of keeping him to start today.
March 21, 2023 at 7:26 pm #214449Togo mixes it up pretty well. It looked like he never missed a location with anything in Goldy’s 2 AB’s. Maybe these 2 BB’s will do him in.
March 21, 2023 at 7:46 pm #214450I was surprised they used Mikolas yesterday, with the lead, instead of keeping him to start today.
Maybe DeRosa didn’t want to use starter with a losing record last year to start the final.
March 21, 2023 at 7:58 pm #214451Record depends on a bunch of things outside of the pitcher’s control, so not sure that should be a criterion. ERAs of the two were similar, and Kelly had a bit better WAR. But Kelly hadn’t seemed to me to show much in his tournament outings. Mikolas seemed solid in his one.
March 21, 2023 at 8:09 pm #214453I agree Mikolas has been better than Kelly, which is why I think the losing record might have influenced the decision.
March 21, 2023 at 8:14 pm #214454Bingo Gags, I had the same thought on Mikolas. Not a lot of great pitching options with their roster, and hats off to the guys who did commit to playing for USA, but Kelly was shaky against Colombia so I didn’t feel good about him. Mikolas was not dominant against Canada but kept them off the board and just looked better than Kelly. Score was 7-1 when Mikolas came in against Cuba so that pretty well told you Kelly was getting the start tonight. I was thinking I would’ve saved Mikolas to start tonight, but even if I was going with Kelly I would have still saved Mikolas for long relief possibilities tonight.
March 21, 2023 at 8:46 pm #214457Starting to get a little low on outs. Lucky to keep it a 2 run lead. They were sure getting ready to go nutz for The Nootz…
