Yeah, I was thinking that all 3 runs on the 3 run tater were on the books charged to Romero. I must have missed something. Oh look…It’s The Nootz on an interview!

The Nootz sounds different than Ohtani…

I’ll say I like the Japanese unis. You can’t go wrong with pinstripes.

I think if a group of people with a lot of money, and I mean a LOT of money could get together and organize a league similar to the format of this WBC that it would draw some interest and maybe pay off and survive. Maybe 4 groups with a 50 to 75 game season and a two round post-season. Don’t know how they’d set up the travel intricacies, but I don’t think it’d be impossible to figure out.

Anything can happen, but I’d have to guess the USA is the favorite.

Before it all started, I was seeing odds that showed the top 3 were DR, USA, Japan, in that order. Just looked at Fanduel and it is currently set at -120 USA, -102 Japan, but has been bouncing around a bit. Don’t think either team has named a starter yet.

Interesting thought 1TD. Sort of like those alternative pro football leagues that have come and gone.

It might work, but I think there is a saturation point when it comes to fan interest, and you just cannot handle too much more than is already available.

Arenado is in the lineup tonight. There was lots of signal the hand was ok, but I’m still glad to see him out there.

The primary reason I thought it might retain some interest and possibly be profitable, BikeMike, is for the simple reason that the fan base would theoretically consist of an entire nation, so that’s a pretty large market share. Furthermore, there’s the possible added attraction of rabid patriotism. At any rate, I held little, if any, interest in this WBC until I started watching. It got it’s hooks into me in a hurry. Of course, there’s no Big League action to serve as competition, so I’m pretty sure that had something to do with it…Haha!

Bust it out of the box and end up at 2B. Way to go, Mike!

Not sure how to feel about Kelly in this situation. First-pitch out is a good start.

Kelly looks just like “The guy under the seats” on Letterman…Haha!

Trea, Trea, Trea, Trea, Trea! That’s five if you’re counting.

That didn’t take long. Someone in the Big Leagues needs to sign that guy.

Can’t go much longer with Kelly. He wasn’t good last time and he’s not looking good now.

Yanking Kelly with one out in the 2nd. It’s the right move. Too bad he’s evidently the best USA has to start a championship game.

Loup did a good job of cleaning up Kelly’s mess.

I was surprised they used Mikolas yesterday, with the lead, instead of keeping him to start today.

Togo mixes it up pretty well. It looked like he never missed a location with anything in Goldy’s 2 AB’s. Maybe these 2 BB’s will do him in.

Maybe DeRosa didn’t want to use starter with a losing record last year to start the final.

Record depends on a bunch of things outside of the pitcher’s control, so not sure that should be a criterion. ERAs of the two were similar, and Kelly had a bit better WAR. But Kelly hadn’t seemed to me to show much in his tournament outings. Mikolas seemed solid in his one.

I agree Mikolas has been better than Kelly, which is why I think the losing record might have influenced the decision.

Bingo Gags, I had the same thought on Mikolas. Not a lot of great pitching options with their roster, and hats off to the guys who did commit to playing for USA, but Kelly was shaky against Colombia so I didn’t feel good about him. Mikolas was not dominant against Canada but kept them off the board and just looked better than Kelly. Score was 7-1 when Mikolas came in against Cuba so that pretty well told you Kelly was getting the start tonight. I was thinking I would’ve saved Mikolas to start tonight, but even if I was going with Kelly I would have still saved Mikolas for long relief possibilities tonight.

Starting to get a little low on outs. Lucky to keep it a 2 run lead. They were sure getting ready to go nutz for The Nootz…
