As I have stated before Marmol wouldn’t have been and wasn’t my first choice to be manager but the fact remains that he DID NOT assemble this embarrassment of a pitching staff. How anyone could gloss over that little tidbit is beyond me.

Fortunately today was a road game. At home, the boo’s would have been loud, long and well deserved.
The season continues to find lower lows. Hopefully Waino is able to come back in September and gain a couple of victories. If this shoulder issue has been going on for awhile, he should have spoken up earlier. But with the club being so bad, he likely felt he could help keep the ship from sinking into the abyss.
Will Ollie still skipper this vessel after the All Star break? Most would think a change has to be in the works, but management has sat on their hands this long so who knows what they are thinking.
I don’t know the answer about who the skipper will be. I am skeptical that it would make any difference but something needs to happen that is for sure. The problem is that the new skipper would be our fourth in the last five years, which would make the front office look very bad. It would highlight them as the problem.
I would say the front office have themselves backed into a corner and are in a real pickle. Regardless, until they decide to upgrade the pitching staff the manager can only do so much, whoever it is.
I mean how many managers do they have to go through to get this right? What is the common denominator here?
A messed up stride will cause shoulder pain. The foot bone’s connected to the . . . . . shoulder bone. No doubt, a lot of direct and collateral pain as been caused by Wainwright’s pitching this year.
Mo keeps getting deeper and deeper over his head. With all the little soap opera subplots that have played out this year, he is even worse at damage control than he is at all the direct duties of his job description. If back in March you had asked a Cards’ pessimist and Mo skeptic to write a spoof on the upcoming season to accentuate the glaring holes Mo neglected and rationalized away (via typical MoSpeak), no way they would have written anything near as damning as what has actually happened. You can’t make this stuff up. There’s also a bit of fitting karma that Mo can’t even fire Oli without looking more foolish than he already does.
What’s concerning about the pitching is that out of the three best starters so far this year, two are likely gone next year. And the reliever that is trending upward (Hicks) is probably gone as well.
There does not appear to be any younger pitchers ready, other than Liberatore. Will McGreevey be able to effectively pitch at the big league level in 2024? Maybe Libby and someone like Woodford will surprise us and be all stars in 2024.
But short of wishing and hoping for things, the reality looks bleak. It is probably best to throw out the white towel and go into seller mode this month. Mo & Co. need to make one of those deals like we did when we dealt Alcantara and Gallen for Ozuna, but in reverse. We need to deal someone like Goldschmidt, Arenado, or some combination of other guys (Carlson, Edman, and the free agent pitchers) for some high ceiling pitchers that will be ready for prime time in the next couple of years.
We might be looking at another bad year in 2024, but a couple of years of selling and some good draft slots we hopefully trend upwards again in ‘25 and going forward.
That is OK in theory bikemike, but it would be Mo and the gang deciding who we want back for Goldy. So, at best, in a couple years we would have a couple more Liberatores. I won’t be elbowing my up to the ticket booth any time soon.
Bling is correct! It scares me to death to sell off Goldy Arenado Montgomery and others with Mo doing the trading! We will most likely get nothing good and then this fall from Grace could last a decade! Damed if you do and damed if you don’t IMO!

32 and 45 sounds about right to me which leaves us at 67 and 95! Hopefully we won’t have all the same management and players at that point!
The Cardinals organization continues to be delusional. They lose 15-2 but the game story on the website is, the Cardinals score two runs in the ninth. The entire organization is a joke.
Come on now, give credit where credit is due. We scored more runs off their position player than they scored off ours.
