Wainwright can no longer get anyone out. I feel bad for him.
July 4, 2023 at 12:22 pm #226505Boy I didn’t expect this……the first 4 Marlin batters put solid wood on the ball resulting in 3 runs……Jesus Sanchez the big blow, a towering 3 run shot to center.
Good stuff….. thanks TD!
July 4, 2023 at 12:22 pm #226506Please Adam do the right thing after today and hang it up. It’s over brother.
I’m sure they will consider an IL stint, but that’s just delaying the inevitable. He’s finished.
July 4, 2023 at 12:22 pm #226507Wow Waino batting practice again- 1 out 3 runs Miami.
July 4, 2023 at 12:24 pm #226508You’re killin me Smalls!
July 4, 2023 at 12:25 pm #226509I’m not sure who is more devastated with this pitching performance…….Waino or our skipper?
July 4, 2023 at 12:28 pm #226510Waino simply stayed around one year longer than he should have. It happens. Unfortunately, his quest for 200 wins could prove costly for his chances of reaching Cooperstown.
July 4, 2023 at 12:29 pm #226512How many times have the Cardinals given up more than one run in the first inning this season? I know the bullpen has blown almost 20 games this season, but the starting pitching hasn’t helped matter either with their early game challenges.
July 4, 2023 at 12:30 pm #226513“Another day goes by, still the children cry…”
And the Reds are now up 7-4 on Washington in the top of the 8th at RFK Stadium.

ParticipantWell tis a shame but this season by waino wasn’t unexpected. I said all along last year that he should go out with Molina and pujols. He’s one of my all time fave cardinal pitchers but when it’s time it’s time. I don’t know if he was motivated by the 200 wins but he shouldn’t have been. Hopefully he can get it together after that rough start today and keep us in the game.
July 4, 2023 at 12:31 pm #226515Its a hole but not a crater at this point. From here, we can hope Waino settles in and gives us a few innings.
July 4, 2023 at 12:32 pm #226516Contreras on fire as he bangs a double to right…….a somewhat good throw to 2nd and it would have been a single.
Stranger things have certainly occurred, Bling. Maybe Waino can put it together today. I predicted he would surrender 6 hits and 3 runs in 6 innings . He’s going to have to be perfect for the next 5 frames for that prediction to be correct.
July 4, 2023 at 12:36 pm #226517Don’t know how Walkers gonna hit MLB pitching if he doesn’t visually follow the ball to the bat. His eyes are elswhere when the ball crosses the plate. Contreras hung out to dry.
July 4, 2023 at 12:36 pm #226518Contreras on fire
He just went up in flames.
July 4, 2023 at 12:39 pm #226519I know this pitcher is good, but some really terrible looking ABs.
July 4, 2023 at 12:41 pm #226522General observation drom about a month ago- Our runs scored against us seemed to be largely grouped in the first 2 innings and the last 3 innings. Guess we’re equally as bad in starting as well as closing pitching!
July 4, 2023 at 12:42 pm #226523I don’t ever recall seeing a Cardinal team make so many bad baserunning plays in a season. Maybe I just missed them but the number of gaffes really stands out to me.
The other thing is just bad defense. I think a large part of that is playing guys like Walker, Burleson, and Yepez in the outfield and Norman at second when both are actually natural 3rd basemen aren’t they.
I guess the club is just trying to figure out how to get the best bats in the line up but I have to place a large part of the base running and defensive issues on Marmol.
July 4, 2023 at 12:42 pm #226524I like that Kiz is catching and Willson is at DH.
Frankly I would do this every game. The only time we have looked good this year on the field was the 10 days of catcher gate.
July 4, 2023 at 12:44 pm #226525Tough to watch Wainwright struggle.
Edmonds explained it very well. He has to come inside with the fb to set up his curve.
He has lost velocity off his fast ball and his curve has lost some snap.
I suppose all of this will really pay dividends in September. Marmol will tell you that.
July 4, 2023 at 12:44 pm #226526Waino absolutely on cruise control here in inning #2.
Solid stuff, ZTR.
July 4, 2023 at 12:47 pm #226527Now let’s put 10 or 11 runs up on the board and maybe make a winner out of Waino today.
July 4, 2023 at 12:50 pm #226528
jj-cf-stlParticipantI’m fine with Gorman at 2B. He was shaky at first (expectedly) but I’ve liked him there May/June.
July 4, 2023 at 12:50 pm #226529I don’t care much how his stats read this year, Andrew Robert Knizner is becoming a respectable ML hitter right before our very eyes. One “tell” is how well he’s starting to fare vs upper echelon pitching.
July 4, 2023 at 12:52 pm #226530He’s throwing it past us. Guys need to choke up and just bat to ball. They don’t teach that anymore.
July 4, 2023 at 12:53 pm #226531I understand the attempt to reach the 200 W plateau, but I’m not sure the pursuit of 2 W’s is as important as maintaining a very nice looking career .623 W/L pct. and a career 3.45 ERA, and at this juncture the only outcome by continuing to pitch looks to be the steady deterioration of both of those nice set of numbers.
