I thought the Miller for Heyward deal was a bad one when we made it. But Jason gave us a good year and Shelby struggled after being real good that one year in Atlanta.
May 19, 2023 at 9:26 pm #221242Yeah, back then the hype and promo wanted you to believe you could build a team around this guy and Colby.
May 19, 2023 at 9:28 pm #221243…think DeJong is going to turn one around here.
Not to be – the old Paulie …
May 19, 2023 at 9:30 pm #221244Jason Heyward did not want to be a Cardinal. He made that clear. But Shelby had his issues too.
Not everyone wants to play in St. Louis so I don’t have hard feelings, but to me the trade was a wash.
Thankfully Heyward sucked for the Cubs, which they deserved.
May 19, 2023 at 9:32 pm #221245Brewers fall to the Rays in a 1-0 final. Hope that’s not an omen.
May 19, 2023 at 9:37 pm #221246We really dodged a bullet with Heyward. He turns down a 10 year deal here to sign an 8 year with the Cubs. Ironically I think he is with the Dodgers now, but have not seen him in these games.
May 19, 2023 at 9:38 pm #221247Not a good idea with Betts now stepping in.
May 19, 2023 at 9:40 pm #221248Shouldn’t have said anything…
May 19, 2023 at 9:40 pm #221249Man, Chip called that one – “watch out on the first pitch”. That will likely seal the deal on this one.
May 19, 2023 at 9:41 pm #221250Are Gallegos and Helsley unavailable tonight??
May 19, 2023 at 9:50 pm #221251Thanks Mo, for signing Verhagen and keeping Stratton. Brilliant.
May 19, 2023 at 9:53 pm #221252With Stratton and Ver Hagen pitching last night, seems like Gallegos or Helsley would have had the 8th tonight. That one is on Marmol, unless something is going on where they are not available.
May 19, 2023 at 9:59 pm #221253Yeah, the BB to Peralta with Betts stepping in should have at least got his attention. Of course, we all watched him sleep through an entire half inning last Oct. without anyone waking him up until it was too late..
May 19, 2023 at 10:02 pm #221254A one run game and your offense racked up 14 tallies last night – you would think your top two relievers would be your go to guys.
As my buddy used to say, “Hey Ollie, you are missing a good game”. (He usually said that to an umpire, but it is appropriate here).
May 20, 2023 at 5:22 am #221256It was our offense that didn’t give us a chance to win.
A five inning start really isn’t much different than a pen game. In that sense it is a failure no matter how those innings go.
May 20, 2023 at 11:57 am #221270I like the way Chip comments on Hicks hitting 100+, but does not get all giddy and goofy like Danny did.
I agree mike.
May 20, 2023 at 11:58 am #221271I didn’t see the game last night but it seems that Matz gave us a decent performance, although when a starter only goes 4.2 innings I am hesitant to pop open the champagne corks.

Yeah, a lot of the same stuff we’re seeing even in their better performances. Lack of efficiency and can’t put batters away. On his next to last batter before he was yanked, I think Matz was up 0-2, then walked the guy. Then the next batter doubled in the 1st and winning run of the game.
