(and Bally Sports South/Southwest Extra)Nolan Gorman now leads his team in HR’s, RBI’s, SLG, OPS, is 2nd in BA at .295, and who would have predicted that 45 games into the ’23 season he’d have 3 less K’s than Paul Goldschmidt?
We have passed the Nats and are no longer the doormat of the National League. Now only one game behind the Reds and Cubs, which means one game out of third place in the Division. We could potentially be right back in this thing by the end of May.
Gonsolin has become a stud…but he is a lefty so that should bolster our chances. It would be great to get at least a split for the series already.
Also, Nolan Gorman leads the majors in slugging this year. I feel happy for that young man that after his struggles last year, he kept his chin up and put in the work to improve. This club needed a lefty power bat and he’s been that and more.
Yeah, Gorman’s no joke, 25, and although we’re still just a little more than a quarter turn into the season, he’s been consistenly generating power production for all 45 games.
I think Gonsolin is a RH pitcher so who knows what the OF alignment will be? I am hoping it is Donovan, Mercado, and Noot but I imagine one of our beer league softball guys will be out there.

I used to think bow tie was being coy in his interviews. Now he appears uncertain, almost confused.
He has built a roster that doesn’t fire on all cylinders and his future “fix it” decisions have me concerned.
Someone mentioned that the Redbirds tied the team record for HR’s in a game last night with 7. That record is shared with both the ’40 and ’96 team editions. The mention of the’96 team stirred up memories concerning Walt Jocketty and the manner in which in his second season as GM he orchestrated the additions of Eckersley, Gant, Gaetti and field manager TLR along with his loyal lieutenant, Dave Duncan, which enabled the Cardinals to come to within 1 win of a NL Pennant and subsequent WS appearance. But here’s the kicker…In just his second season as the Cardinal GM, attendance spiked from 1.7 to 2.6 million fans passing through the gate. In my view, Jocketty and TLR are the two primary reasons for almost 30 years of not only Redbird success, but also of ownership’s access to the steady flow of vast amounts of revenue. Moreover, I feel as though the Redbird franchise and the current Redbird FO bosses continue to piggyback and benefit from the winning legacy that was created by Jocketty and HOF field manager TLR. I don’t feel as though it’s an accident that during the tenure of those 2 guys, a total of 5 HOF players wore the Birds on the Bat and I’ll always maintain that Jocketty gets the credit for assembling the last 2 Cardinal WS Championships.
The Brewers are facing a Tampa lefty this evening with a W/L record of 7-0. That’s a large collection of W’s for this stage of the season in this day and age. Hope he makes it 8.
Anyone heard anything on little Eddie’s fender bender? Could have been a lot worse, I guess. The Nootz at 6-3 and 210 lbs. is a pretty big and solid guy. For a second there, it looked as though both of them were about to hit the wall at Daytona. Little Eddie’s pretty tough, so he should be okay.
Well, I had to look it up and Edman’s condition is thought to be, “Nothing serious and he’s listed as day to day.” I also noticed that as I was keying in his name to look up the scoop, his name fell right in the middle of 2 names at the top of that little search drop down as I was typing in “Tommy.” Little Eddie’s name was smack dab in the middle of both “Tommy Hilfiger” and “Tommy Bahama”…Haha! I wondered to myself what he would think about that because I would have never imagined little Eddie ever once thought of himself as all that much of a fashion plate…

9. Oscar Mercado (R) RFTonight’s line-up genuinely looks to be something that could possibly be termed sound of mind. I suppose little Eddie being skint-up forced the Redbird manager to place Contreras in the 5 slot as protection for Nado instead of the vicious type power production bat of either little Eddie or Donovan…
The lineup looks ok although I would probably put Noot in RF and Mercado in CF.
I also find it strange that Marmol will occasionally put Burleson or Yepez in the OF but he absolutely refuses to let them DH, which is really their only value.
I remember last season when we faced Gonsolin, he rolled in here with a 15-ish game streak of less than 2 runs allowed per start and a shiny ERA of about 1.50
We tagged him for 5 over 5. We can get to him.

Very well may see some rain downtown. It’s my guess they’ll play, but could be late getting underway with a possible interruption of play to cover up the IF later on. I’m just going by what I see outside coupled up with a quick glance at a local radar image.
