As I recall former Red Sox and Brewers first sacker George Scott coined the term “tater” for home runs. The reference was that home runs are where you earn more money, which in turn puts “taters” on the table.
Mercado struggled with that ball off Freeman’s bat, then makes a good running catch to keep Freddie at third.
Taters are good. Baked, fried, boiled or mashed, I’ll take ’em. But when you get 4 taters in an inning, that’s taters with gravy!
When I see Outman take an AB, I think of former Big League pitcher Josh Outman who was my son’s teammate on both his HS and A. Legion team. He had one of the oddest deliveries I’ve ever seen and I once saw him K Ryan Howard 4 times in a HS game. My son also faced Howard once and he ripped a 3 run tater that I don’t think ever came back down to the earth’s surface…Haha!
