Before we get a big head from the successful road trip, we still have the worst record and win pct in the National League. But we are now only one game back of the second worst teams, such was the depth of the hole we dug ourselves. We are headed in the right direction.

Shouldn’t we be adding another lefty reliever. Seems like every time we play the Brewers we should have 2 or 3 lefty relievers. Not sure what the options are though. Romero can’t be recalled yet, Thompson is starting. I’d almost recall Liberatore and start him. Maybe skip Waino once. I’m not comfortable with Cabrera being the only lefty, and he won’t likely be available tonight. Plus Oli seems determined to keep Genisis in even when he walks a couple of guys.

Is it possible to keep Knizner and Dejong hitting, Arenado getting back to his norm,a and maybe Donovan back to form?

Note that Pallante is essentially our second lefty as he does better against lefties. So we do still kind of have 2.

Cards27 – and another option is they could call Connor Thomas up and have him as a bullpen lefty. He’s on the 40 man and I think it’s likely he ends up in the BP long term anyway.

A QS from Flaherty would be helpful. He owes us.

We are desperately in need of Flaherty to be effective in some way. Even last year pre injury he was ok, and that’s a need. Hitting the strike zone once in a while would be a good start.

Yeah, he hasn’t at all had any command of either the strike zone or the talk zone. Hopefully he’ll find the former and lose the latter.

Be advised that Yelich is red hot. More than likely he is going to hurt us this series. Hopefully we can win two of these three. Then we have the Dodgers for four games. We need to pay them back.

    And FYI here,
Clayton Kershaw’s mother passed away. But he is still planning on pitching on Tuesday night at home against Minnesota. Which means he will probably be on the hill for the Sunday game here at Sportsman’s Park.

Flaherty needs the shut his big mouth and turn in several consecutive quality starts.

I’m trying to recall the last time a 3 game series in the middle of May carried so much weight and I can’t come up with anything. I wouldn’t go so far as to say the season’s in the balance, but to put it mildly, these 3 games are certainly pivotal ones. At 7.5 back and locking horns with the very team that sits at the top, I’d ascertain that it’s imperative to win at least 1 game, so I genuinely hope the Redbirds show up ready to play baseball tonight and can somehow place the 1st of 3 in the W column to bleed off some of the pressure. At any rate, I’m looking on the sunny side in the context that I can’t recall the last time a series this early in the season had the potential to take on a similar atmosphere to one played during a post-season. It’ll be fun to watch….If they win…Haha!

Yeah, ZTR, it would definitely serve Mr. Jack well if he could demonstrate a little command of both his mouth and the strike zone. Let’s see…6.18 BB’s per 9 IP. Incidentally, that first number also happens to be the exact same number that represents his ERA. You almost have to acknowledge that he’s remarkably consistent.

I still think we’d be better off with Goldschmidt #3 and Arenado #4. I’d put either Donovan or Edman at leadoff and then Nudie Bar at 2nd, especially against a righthander.

I will say this – hopefully I was wrong about Nudie Bar. As I said awhile back, he’s not done much but so far this year he is doing better. I hope he keeps it up.

Edman’s OBP vs righties is .272. Donovan’s is only .327. Both unacceptable for top of the order.

Hopefully Carlson doesn’t have to go on the IL. That would really hurt our OF defense for a couple of weeks.

After reading Denton’s post I have but one thing to say – IL here comes Carlson!

Gomez and Waker are the only outfielders on the 40 man in Memphis. That would be interesting either way.

Things would change for Edman and Donovan if they were in the 1-2 spots in the lineup.

    It’s called chemistry.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a guy twist an ankle like that on a swing that produced a hit. Would seem more likely on a wild swing and miss when you are way out front. Anyway, when that kind of thing happens it’s probably not your career year. And please don’t shower during a thunderstorm.

I don’t know 1td, but poor Dylan might’ve been victimized by one of those evil gypsies that somehow eluded the exorcism.

Has O’Neill started his rehab assignment? I guess the bench is a man down tonight.
